Interactive Fiction or just plain text adventures... has anyone played any recently?

A lot of people find these very frustrating and slow since a lot of time is spent hunting for the right verb.

Two very easy and very nicely written short stories were:

    1) Photopia - a short story that you follow along in. No tough puzzles in sight... very enjoyable!

    2) Shade - A one room wonder. Interact in the room and watch your reality alter. My impression of text games changed with this one. It was quick but you really enjoy the quirks!

I would really recommend shade as a starter point for a quick story if you are in a hurry. Do a google for winfrotz or frotz if you want to try 'em out. But there are other interpreters out there... TADs, Glux, Hugo... to name a few.

This site is great for find many stories that might suit you:

I tend to like the sci-fi ones myself. The Lurking Horror was a great story by Infocom.

Question: Anybody ever finish any of Rainbird's Magnetic Scrolls games and did ye think of it? That is, the Pawn.... or Fish! ? There is an interpreter out for this now... called Magnetic Windows 2.2 (can be got at http://www.ifarchive.org/). You can play these games with the original work.
