Desert combat 0.5 preview video has been released. The .5 release is expected to be on November 7th 2003 and will be about 500 -> 550MB. The video is 48MB.

whats that thing on the side of the medical chopper? looks like a torpedo

The blackhawk in the picture is actucully a medical transit hawk. The US army use it to carry the wounded and to bring medical supplies. The things on the side are extra fuel tanks to give it a better range and payload.

The one for DC.5 will be able to heal soilders who ride in it.

On the medical Blackhawk... I just don't get it. I don't think people are going to use it on public servers. You really don't get any gratitude or reward for flying the things and healing troops. It's much the same with the normal Blackhawk. It could be an amazingly effective weapon, but it requires a bit of a commitment from 3 or 4 players for it to really work.

It'd be a lot more interesting if the "boring" (AC-130, UH-60 etc.) vehicles could be piloted by AI or something and directed by the gunners, like in Opflash.

Ok kiddies, we are getting close to the expected release date for DC .5. The DC team say they expect to have it released on the 7th November i]this Friday[/i and so I will be trying to get mirrors up for you as soon as it comes out. It will be between 500 and 550mb in size so we will hopefully have a CD or two going around this here community updating everyone.

Know issues with the Beta .5
Optimization
Since this mod is a work in progress, some optimizations have been made to the models for performance. You might experience a slight slowdown due to the fact that we haven’t done a full optimization pass yet.

Balancing
Currently the game feels balanced, but some things may destroy objects faster then they should, the game will continually balance out as the mod progresses. This goes for speed of vehicles, weapon damage and amount of ammo.

Airplane and Helicopters
Not all planes have a new cockpit yet, this is a work in progress.

Maps
Only maps that display a small DC logo in them have DC vehicles. This is only temporary until new maps are created. Some new DC maps do not support single player yet, coming soon.
Battle of Eastings, does support it though.
