You mean you haven't unlocked the Ax Cup? :)
Beat the first 3 cups on expert difficulty to unlock the master difficulty. Beat all 4 cups on the master difficulty setting, or wait 5 years for an Irish arcade to get F Zero AX and plug your memory card into it, to get the 5th Cup (The Ax Cup).

Is it 5 completely new tracks ?!?!!? or is it just reverse tracks ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,202 ✭✭✭Swifty

I'm pretty close to getting the AX cup, just have the diamond GP to beat on master. I can come first easily on the first three tracks of that GP it's just the last two that are bloody difficult. Having only one extra machine at the start of the GP is also a pain as I've found myself getting to the final race on top of the table only to fall off the track and It's game over  I suppose I've had a two month headstart but I don't get to play it all that much :) Wonder what the AX tracks are like.

As far as I know tusky the AX cup is completely new tracks.

you know if you destroy 5 people you get an extra continue , its fairly easy to destroy around 5-10 on the first course of the diamond cup , that would get you a extra one or two continues

That reporter doing the interviews at the end of the cups is quite the stylish fellow ;)

I'm pretty sure you can only get one extra life per race. Once yu get 5 kills you might aswel start racing properly, its easiest to get them on teh 1st lap i think

finally I now have the diamond cup and the tracks are proper hard except the lava one... tis gonna take some time beating them:)

    HJGAR.

DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY TIMES I'VE SMASHED INTO A WALL WHILE I WAS LEADING THE PACK ON THE LAST TRACK ON EXPERT GRAND PRIX'S? IAUFSG.

... about 4 times or so, and I have to go and start all over again, wheras even a finish in the top 14 or so would do as I've already gained such a lead.

Also,I've got 15 tickets to spare, can anybody suggest a nice brumbrumm?

Get the one that has two cockpits and two drivers. Goro i think one of there names is. On the n64 version they were really light and flew off the track really easily, which can be useful if your good enough, but if you not :P theyre great fun in multi[layer none the less

thinking about trading this in tommorow for mario kart :( its good and all but im geting a bit tired of it , hmmm

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,346 ✭✭✭✭KdjaCL

Tusky that a not a good idea, trade in will get you 15 so get mario for 45 maybe.
Thats 105 for 2 games and only keep 1

Sell it or trade it for a game be a better idea, maybe someone got Joe and doesnt like it.

I havent played Zero as much as i would like too (havent finsihed a grand prix on my cube did a few on bros) but not getting rid its good enough to keep and i can play it bit bit :)

Yeah, I've been using that tactic. You have to be careful though it's so easy to fall off if you miss.

The 2nd hand games are great prices over in NY. Was there in the summer and got about 20 and only spent about 150 dollars. You can get loads of PS1 classics for next to nothing and most never reached europe. The PS2 games are about 20-30 second hand.

I suggest you get yourself a copy of Einhander when you are there. It's about $7 second hand. I got it as a impulse purchase. Best $7 dollars I ever spent.

IMO, F-Zero is most enjoyable in short bursts when you need some adrenaline. You'll get quickly tired of it if you play it all day every day. I just pick it up now to have a blast at a master GP every now and then, trying all the different ships. Have you played in master mode yet? The GP's are so much more exciting in that mode. Especially in those tracks where it's just constant boosting from start to finish, and you can hear the whole pack boosting behind you. Short bursts tusky, SHORT BURSTS! [/end sermon]

I've had it since Friday and I love it. I finished F-Zero on the N64 on Master difficulty so things have been okay so far. I've just finished the first cup on Master and I've finished the Story Mode on normal. Overall I absolutely love this game, the sheer speed of it is incredible and flying by the seat of your pants on Master with no health left and boosting like crazy to reach the goal is one of the most exciting things I've ever played. The Story Mode was great if a little short but the brilliant cutscenes make up for that. I'm still working away now on the hard version of Story Mode and on the Master Cups. I've also made quite a few custom logos (Morpheus, Agent Smith and Neo by using real pictures and copying them over pretty much pixel by pixel but this takes ages) which look pretty cool on the cars. The cars I use most are Iron Tiger with the rather odd Baba driving it and the Panther car driven by Kate Allen. F-Zero GX is infintely better than Mario Kart in my opinion too especially since the computer cars don't cheat.

Thats a pretty good price considering it goes for $33 at our new friends Gamestop.

Thats how much I got it for from one of the GAME stores (Pier 7 methinks). Theres loads of copies of it in NY. You can pick up loads of rare games in NY if you have a look around. Theres a few copies of the 2 lunar games special editions for less than $30 and I got all the rare RPGs for less that $15 (such as Star Ocean 2 which there are loads of copies of). However dont't expect to find any really rare games like Xenogears and Suikoden 1+2. You should be able to get most games second hand at <$15 and the lunar special editions at < $30. It's worth getting a PS for especially if you are an RPG fan.

Einhander runs well on an emulator and the Soundtrack (which is fantastic) can be ripped easily with PSXMC. It's a great game also:D

Alright just a quick update on my progress :) I've just beaten the second cup on master and now I only have another 2 to go. I've managed to do about half of the story levels on hard but very hard will take a lot of work. Personally I find the Astro Robin to be one of the better machines. It's specs are Body B Boost D and Grip A and it weighs in around the 1000 mark so it turns on a sixpence. I'm finding the two route casino level to be my undoing at the moment, either because I go too fast and go flying off the track or I get knocked off by someone else. As for trying to kill 5 cars on the first level to get some bonus lives I find that I need to do well on the first 2 levels to get first later on and trying to kill other vehicles usually means I place a lot lower than I would otherwise.

[edit] Just finished Emerald Cup on Master, all I have left to do is Diamond Cup but oh boy is it a toughy, Trident alone causes no end of problems.

[edit2] After a lot of work I've finished the game on Master.
Contrary to previous posts a new AX Cup doesn't become available, rather each of the Arcade tracks become available in the shop and cost 40 credits each. Theres 5 Arcade courses available: Screw Drive, Meteor Swarm, Cylinder Wave, Thunder Road and Spiral. I presume once I've bought all 5 courses the AX cup will appear. As well as that theres an item called "Sounds of Big Blue" which would appear to be a sound test thing although I have yet to buy it. I'll update when I've gotten all those items :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,202 ✭✭✭Swifty

You got the diamond cup on master already? Damn.. I've been trying that for ages. The last two tracks are very hard to come higher than 15th. Not to mention the lack of extra ships. I don't think I've used the Astro Robin yet, must give it a go 'cause I'm always using the Fire Stingray. It's an ADB'er but I don't know the weight. Have you tried beating the staff ghosts? It's a bloody joke they're far too good!

I think the music thing that's in the shops is a remixed version of one of the songs. Probably a remix of the Big Blue one seeing as it says that :)

I got a rather odd message when I tried to load the game today:
"The Data in Memory Card Slot A is Corrupted and the card must be formatted, press
    okay to format now."
I selected no, turned off my GC and went to the memory manager where I found out that my two cards were full, I cleared up some space and loaded the game again and everything has been fine since. This is just a word of warning though, if you get such a message whatever you do don't pick yes as it will presumably delete all the data on the card.

Anyway, after that little incident I managed to buy all the AX courses and the AX GP opened up.
The AX cup is suprisingly easy, if you managed to get this far you'll have no problems with it, I managed to place 1st in 4 out of the 5 races on my first go with only the cylinder level causing any real problems but the courses are fantastic even if they're a little easy. Here's just a short summary of each of them now that I have them:
Aeropolis Screw Drive: A very easy level similar to many ways to the Dragon Slope only minus the giant jump, you'll breeze through this level at full throttle.
Outer Space Meteor Stream: An internal tube level that looks amazing, meteors fly past you and the construction grid style of the level means that it never looks anything other than fantastic except maybe in the ice tunnel section which looks a tad out of place.
Port Town Cylinder Wave: Quite possibly the best of all the bonus tracks mainly due to the brilliant holographic effects that happen all around the course, it features the thinest cylinder I've ever seen which is quite tough to stay on and after that theres a massive jump through a spiral light target and through into the finish line.
Lightning Thunder Road: This is a great track, insanely fast with massive long thin stretches followed by 90 degree angles which are reminiscent of the corners in the original version. It's also similar to Red Canyon 2 from F-Zero X in that theres massive thin road sections followed by huge jumps.
Green Plant Spiral: The longest course in the game with lap times of about 1 minute 30. So long in fact that you can't save the replays. It features a spiral tunnel with a cylinder running through the middle so you basically go through the tunnel then back along the cylinder into incoming traffic which is pretty hair raising. After that the course twists and turns all over the place but the wide roads mean that you won't have much trouble.

Once you finish Arcade mode on Expert you get Mute City Sonic Oval which is the track featured in the first level of story mode, it seems like a bit of a pointless track since it's not included in the Arcade mode and laps only take about 20 seconds each but there you go. You don't get anything for finishing AX on master mode other than credits which is a bit of a disappointment. As for the staff ghosts, I have about 10 of them available in the shop but I've only bought the one for the first mute city course so far (which incidentally beats my best record by at least 3 seconds). I also bought the Big Blue sound item but I'm not sure how to access it.

Swifty, the main thing to do is place 1st in the first 3 races on the Diamond Cup which isn't too tough, after that you just need to get a respectable score on the Dragon Slope level (I came 6th on it) then on the final level you just need to stay on, don't aim to win that one or you'll fall off every time. Be nice and gentle on the boosts on the final level and only use them on the goal stretch or on the long thin sections. I actually placed 20th on the last level but due to the fact that I took out my rival on the first lap it was grand. Work out after you finish Dragon Slopes how many points you need to stay ahead of your rival and just aim for that, nothing higher and with any luck your rival won't place first anyway.

i found the us version to be pretty finikey with the memory cards. if you delete the replay file or custom garage files the memory card seems to be unusable for all other games. i had to buy a seperate card to put my fzero saves on just in case i erased one of those files to make room for another games saves.

Roller Toaster you should write a walkthrough for all the tracvks on www.gamefaqs.com all the ones there are uselss!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 507 ✭✭✭Roller Toaster

Cheers Rnger, I was thinking of doing some sort of guide but I can't help but think it just wouldn't work within the text based style of gamefaqs. I need pictures of each of the tracks to show the best lines to take etc and the only real way to do that is to get a TV-In card which I'll hopefully get within the next few weeks.
    Anyways,
in the AX Cup theres actually 9(?) new racers and vehicles which are presumably from the arcade version of the game, the only way to unlock these is to finish a story level on very hard and I've only managed that with Black Shadow's trap so far but I'm fairly sure I'm close to cracking Rescue Jody and the Chain Gang level. The new drivers and cars all look great and I can't wait toget them, the first one I've gotten weighs in at a mere 790 and comes with D A D stats.

Just completed the diamond GP on master today actually. Bought all the AX tracks and had a little go but haven't played them all properly yet. I'm going to go take a closer look in a few minutes at them. Noticed those new machines racing against me too. I'm having a tough enough time getting through story mode on Hard mode even.. Still haven't beaten from Episode 7+ on hard.. I'm always breaking down on ep 7.. damn lava pits.

****e, is that true? I have a couple of Garage saves on the memory card. If I delete them will the card become useless? So if i just leave them there it might be allright? Bah, garage files take up alot of the flimsy 59 blocks. I was thinking my memory card wasn't going to be compatible with it at all because I thought the PAL saves would interfere but when it worked without trouble I thought everything would be ok :(

Congrats Swifty on finishing Diamond on Master. That's the great thing about this game, just as I thought I was nearing the end after beating the AX Cup I discovered that I had all those bonus cars to unlock which hopefully will take another good while yet. I'd love to do more custom cars at the moment but the parts are quite pricey really and it can be better spent or saved for new AX cars, one of which I'm looking forward to getting is the sort of white V-Wing design. Tell me how you get on and what you think of the AX tracks :)
