    Ireland ranks bottom of world for ISPs

    The quality of competition among Ireland's Internet service providers is the sixth worst in the world, according to a report by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

    The Global Competitiveness Report ranks 102 countries in terms of various measures of business competitiveness, combining publicly available data with the surveyed perceptions of business executives. Finland and the USA are the two most competitive economies in the world, according to the report. Ireland had a patchy showing in most categories and ranked nearly last in terms of competitiveness in the ISP sector, coming in at number 97 out of 102 countries.

    And the statistics get worse as you read down. And bad and all as these are for the present, they are storing up real trouble for the future. Sadly, there appears to be nobody in Government who recognises the warning signs for our future economic well- being.

    How many ISPs are there anyway, 4? Eircom/Indigo, ESAT/BT's various bits, UTV/IP, Netsource. Have I missed any?
