Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

In March 2002, one of Dublin’s longest running – and finest – nightclubs closed its doors in the early hours of the morning for one last time. After nearly 10 years at the top level of Dublin clubbing, The Kitchen - mostly famous for being owned by rock icons U2 – was gone.

Eventually though, the club no longer became famous because of who owned it, but because of those who frequented it. The top quality DJ’s, door staff, cloakroom attendants, bar staff, promoters, and of course the regular customers formed The Kitchen into a club which was missed even before it closed its doors for that one last time. Spawning successful and enduring nights such as Blue, Genius, Fever and many more, the club was intimate, friendly, and totally lacking in any element of arrogance. It was a place where almost anyone could have a good time.

The Kitchen may never come back as a venue, but little elements of what made it great are still to be found around Dublin. DJ Podge for instance. For some, his name is forever linked with The Kitchen, but unlike his favourite club, he’s still going strong and is as enthusiastic about dance music and clubbing as ever.

Another enduring element of clubbing history from Temple Bar way comes in the form of Dean Sherry who, following the closure of his beloved Kitchen, continued to bring quality clubbing to Dublin’s ‘cultural quarter’ with his night Phunk’d Up at Switch, and then it’s most recent home, Eamon Dorans.

And even today, following the closure of The Kitchen, Switch and the finish of Phunk’d Up at Eamon Dorans, there are still elements of the Kitchen alive and well in Temple Bar. Marty Sheridan was a regular punter at The Kitchen, and he keeps the quality dance music going just up the road, in Sin – one of Dublin’s newest nightspots.

These three fantastic local DJ’s added to the intimate, basement atmosphere of Club Nassau, fantastic crowd, low door tax, and friendly door policy are sure to make this a night to remember.

This could never be a Kitchen ‘Reunion’ night, as that could only happen in the great club itself. We aim merely to try to re-create some of the magic that was The Kitchen with a Retrospective night, showcasing some of the great talent and music of the club. Don’t miss this one!
