    nothing serious,

Is a wireless LAN any good for gaming? How about internet connection? any issues with connectivity? speed? (adsl line) etc.

Undecided whether to go wireless or poke holes in the floor at home to run cables for a standard lan.

ps. thinking of using the Linksys ADSL gateway (firewall/router/wireless access point - if you buy the card seperate - 4port switch). If you use wireless, can you also use the physical ports and have more than 4 connections?

if you mean internally (ie 2 people shooting the crap out of each other in a wireless networked game then the lag will be unnoticable, but you might take a slight hit in pings if you are thinking of gaming over wireless broadband, but not much though from what i hear, although i believe it increases the further away you get from the antenna.

there are plenty of threads in the BB forum about ping stats for wireless versus wired BB.

back to the original question, no you shouldn't have any problems at all with a wifi network for gaming.

For the purposes of running a ping test, how can I find out the IP address of my ISP?

I'm based in Brussels, so asking the ISP for it, in French, could be prolematical!

    Thanks.

Do a traceroute. At at cmd prompt type tracert www.boards.ie or www.quake.ie or whatever. This will list all the routers the packet goes through to get to it's destination and give you the ip's as such.

alternatively you can just do nslookup www.frenchispname.fr to get the ip of it's webserver.

What exactly are you pinging/testing ?

    Verb,

    Thanks for that.

I'm not happy with my wireless connection and I mailed US Robotics about it.

They replied: "Start, Run, CMD, ping x.x.x.x -t (whereby the x.x.x.x stands for the IP address of the AP)"

That's why I want the IP address.

Could you explain how to do it in more detail?

    Ta.

Do you have a seperate DSL modem and WAP?, if so then that looks like a problem with your modem .... , it they are in the same box then your ISP may be at fault...

I'd say give everything a power down and power up and try again....
