Alternative to display Java/Opengl to applet

I'm looking for an alternative to an applet to display interactive graphics coded in Java and OpenGL. Just to be different really, I found a opengl plug in for director MX, but that doesn't support Java so Shockwave is out the window! Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated.
