    This makes no sense at all. The assumption that a circuit needs to be powered up to be destroyed by an EMP is invalid. A circuit with no power connected will still have extremely high voltages induced in it, apropos, the components will be irrevocably destroyed.

    Presumably the EMP-on-a-rocket idea is implausible as the power required to produce an EMP can only be generated by a ship....

    Also, at this late stage in the thread the futility of spoilering information is apparent.

    fair enuff, I wasn't arguing that, but one of their main (and according to the first movie, only) defence against the machines was the EMP's and you'd think they would have had a few laying about aside from on the ships, for use in such circumstances as was apparent in the 3rd movie. From a movie point of view, they seemingly have found a way around the EMP destroying any and all electronics regardless of whether they are on. It wouldn't make any sense to set it off at all if it was going to mess up your ship anyway.

    probably, but you could have them hooked into the mains in the dock.
