Got my UTV bill last night. I noticed on it that certain calls to the UK are charged at a much higher rate than others.

They were described as "UK Special service number", these are the 0870 numbers which are at national rates in the UK. But I was not charged the UK rate but a much higher rate.

UTV dont show these charges in their tarrif sheet. Does anyone know the difference?

Just letting you folks know, think before calling a 0870 number.

    Greetings,

0870 is a non-geographic number and is therefore not eligible for the 25% discount off Eircom's standard rate. The discount only applies to local, national, and international calls, not non-geographic such as 0845, 0870, 0891 etc.

This does not change the fact that u.tv do not present the call charges in any Transparent, easily-accessible way. They are bloody difficult to find on the website.

On Eircom's Pricelist, "All UK Numbers except 0044(1) and 0044(2)" are listed as Band 1A and attract high (UK Mobile) rates.

    Hi,

The tariffs can be found 2 clicks into our website at www.utvip.com -
1st click is selecting your location (ROI or NI), and the 2nd is to select "TARIFFS" from the left hand side menu.

Local and national calls can be found at the top of the table, with international rates following.

If you have any suggestions on how to improve this, please let me know.

    Best regards,

    Paul-UTVI,
I have no idea what page you see when you click on the link in your posting.

The one that I see does not have an option for "selecting your location (ROI or NI)"

It is in fact the same page as the homepage for u.tv and it is virtually impossible to find any tariff information from this page.

Perhaps you see a different page. Perhaps the u.tv transparent webcache in the Republic is wonky.

Anyway, I was not even aware of the existence of a www.utvip.com. All of the Clicksilver activity (sign-up, viewing statements, FAQs etc.) is done using u.tv/xxxx

Nowhere in the FAQ or any other link that i can find is there any link to www.utvip.com

Perhaps you guys need to sort out the website? Do you have a direct URL to the tariffs?

If you have an account with UTVip you can get a tariff list once you log in, but it does not give complete information regarding the cost of UK calls. It should state the rate for each type of call. It has a small disclaimer saying non geographical number dont get a 25% discount. But they dont tell you the rates.

    http://u.tv/internet/services/clicksilverie/ietariff.asp
    or
    http://www.utvip.com/ietariff.asp?loc=ie

Will give you the full tariff list.

As regards the non-geographic calls, these will be charged at the standard Eircom rate.

    Regards,

Which is? You need to state this!

Thank you Paul-UTVI. Now perhaps you can explain how to get to this page in "one or two clicks" from the Clicksilver pages.

As far as I can see, it is not linked to from the "Telephony Guide" http://u.tv/internet/services/clicksilverie/telephony.asp?t=tele

or from the Clicksilver FAQs http://u.tv/support/catsearch.asp?category=broadband&region=ie

or from the "Pricing" section http://u.tv/internet/services/clicksilverie/specialoffer.asp?p=yes&b=

You have conveniently forgotten to mention this in your posting.

Also, you mention "non-geographic calls" and say that they are priced the "same as Eircom". Correct use of the term non-geographic relates to in-country numbers such as 0818, 1850, 1890, 1550 etc.

They do not refer to International Calls.

You seem trying to use the term to refer to all destinations not listed in your tariff. You do not list UK Mobiles (Eircom Band 1A), European Mobiles (Eircom Bands 2A, 3A), Australian Mobiles (Eircom Band 7A). Are all of these "non-geographic" as well or are calls charged at the same rate as calls to land lines in the destination countries.
For example, how much is a call to a Vodafone UK Mobile? The tariff suggests 11.5c per minute daytime (United Kingdom). Is it something other than this?

Bond-James Bond is right to be annoyed. 0870 may be a "non-geographic" when dialled from a BT line in the UK but 0044870 is just an International call when dialled from Ireland.

Based upon your tariff, I believe that he is entitled to pay the "normal" UK rate for the calls to 0044870 and indeed to all UK mobiles as well.

Go to www.utvinternet.com/clicksilverie , click ROI at the left hand side, click Telephony guide, then at the bottom of that page, click "Click here to see our complete list of call charges". The direct link to this page is http://u.tv/internet/services/clicksilverie/ietariff.asp

I will certainly enquire about this and get the tariff list updated. I'll post a reply to this thread once this has been done.

    Paul,
Now that you point it out, I can now find the link. It's not highlighted or anything and I must have missed it several times!

In general, u.tv may not be perfect but I've been impressed at the way that Malcolm, Charles, Carl and now yourself try to keep the Customers informed and respond to queries.
Makes a refreshing change, keep up the good work!
