    futures?
    securities?
    derivitives?

    I'm not completely sure...

    Futures are contracts where you decide a price now for the delivery of a product in the future. For example, as (heavy) oil is in highest demand in winter, you might buy ahead in the summer, but you won't get the summer price - you will get the winter price.

For example the ESB did a sale and lease back-type financing deal to improve their cashflow in the 1990s which saw bonds being raised with Moneypoint Power Station as the secutity. Others would be state loans and the like. Usually there it ahs to ahve a ready market.
