I have legacey applications that read and write their registry settings to HKEY_CURRENT_USER which was fine under Win98 but the apps have been moved to Win2k. When a new user logs onto the machine HKEY_CURRENT_USER is refreshed and the settings are lost for that user. Is their anyway I can setup up user profiles so this refresh doesn't happen?

roaming profiles if in a win2k domain with active directory

or create a custom account on the machine

via group policy on the local machine

    start run gpedit.msc

and im sure theres limitations on changes user can make to registry

as in guest user does not save settings on exit

u can create a new user and associate gpedit customised policy with it
