advice on pubic hair tidyness wanted

hi there. i've been trying to keep my pubes nicely trimmed and neat for a while now. you know the old story. last thing a girl wants is to 'go downtown' and end up choking on a hairball! the thing is, i've come across one or two 'irritating' problems, if you catch my drift. i'm just hoping some of the guys who carry out this form of personal hygiene on themselves might be able to give me some advice.

firstly, what technique do you use? trimming with a scissors, shaving, waxing, what? i don't want to do the whole waxing thing and i've tried the scissors trimming but i want to keep it more tightly cut and neater than using a scissors seems to do for me. what would you recommend? i tried the shaving, not completely shaved but kind of tightened up, but i had some problems with that, namely a bit of a rash, a couple of small nicks and some itchyness (not too bad but still a little bit itchy). this was using the trimmer on an electric shaver, mind you. i didn't want to risk using a bare blade (disposable) on my delicate bits for obvious reasons!

should i go ahead and use a disposable instead? if so, how would i go about using one without cutting my balls to pieces? i take it there would be a different technique you would have to use (a much more careful, slower, more delicate one, i suppose!) compared to a face shave. and is there anything i could do to reduce the itchyness a bit? like i said, it's not too bad, just a little bit annoying at times. could you use something like nivea for men shaving balm down there to try and help reduce the irritation? or would you have to use a special kind of cream or lotion or is there anything like that available?

any advice or help you can give me on this subject would be welcome. thanks.

i use a pair of nail scissors (rub the sharp ends off with a file)
you should only ever have it neatly trimmed, shorn pubes on men are reserved purely for porn stars tbh

shaving for me works best, but you have to be dam careful

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 10,247 Mod ✭✭✭✭flogen

never performed any of those three grooming techniques, but i wouldnt be too sure of a razor (for obvious reasons) and besides, would the stuble be amazing irritating?
and waxing is the same i guess...

Id say a trim would be grand, some girls would be freaked by a totally bald 'groin area', so trimming would mean less hair, but not totally bald like some aspiring porn star

a hair razor works wonders for the upper area (what ever blade u use is up to u), do not use on balls! I once got "caught" :( Razor on balls - use cold water stops havin a foot long of awkward elbow skin and hair sticks out better for the slice! No I'm not a pr0n star but can give it as good as em! :p

Syxpak Says that when he shaves his wang it looks bigger.
On that note i'd say taking a razor to it might be a bit drastic try the nail scissors and see how it goes from there.

Or you could shave it in the shape of a lightening bolt and call yourself zeus.

    Oh.

I think you should go to your 'stylist' for that.

I'm a razor man. Just be very careful. *Shudder*
Saying that, I use a cut-throat on my face, and desposables for down there, a bit of a risk taker me. (Also means I never use the wrong one in the wrong place!)
To stop itchyness, either trim everyday or I was told talc can help.

As for what kind of man worries about trimming, why would expect a woman to, if we where not ready to do so our selves.
The last thing I want when pleasing a woman, is hair every where, it is just manners to keep it managable. Plus some women love the shaved thing.

beard trimmer is the business for just reducing it to a respectable length, once in a while the wet shave is a good one, gf will love it but always good to remeber the e45 lotion afterwards (well thats only my choice any will do the job).

if i expect a woman to keep the garden tidy the least i expect of myself is to do the same

thanks for the replies guys. some interesting suggestions there alright!

firstly, i think i'll steer clear of the cut-throat razor, thank you very much! secondly, havelock, i'll try the talc thing and see does that help with the itchyness. and the e45/nivea for men shaving balm technique if the talc doesn't work. thirdly, i might try the beard trimmer thing that dakeyras suggested. like i said, i don't want to completely shave it all off, just keep it nice and tight and tidy so the beard trimmer sounds like it might be the business, perhaps combined with an occasional complete wet shave (for those times when the other half wants it completely hairless for when she intends to "go downtown" for a long time!). and to answer chernoybl's question, i'm not really worrying about it, just looking for some suggestions as to how other guys do it and see if they will work for me. it's not the kind of thing that keeps me awake at night or anything! and the other guys are right, it's just a personal hygeine thing and a consideration thing for your other half. the last thing i would want would be to be choking on a hairball or picking hair's from between my teeth when i'm going down on her so i assume she feels the same so it's only fair i keep things tidy for her too. that's all.

anyway lads, thanks for the replies.

Oh thanks for clearing that up. I was under the false impression that this was the reserve of geeks who sat at their computer practically all of their empty lives spending too much time thinking about why they had none and resorted to silly actions to regain one. A selfless act it is and i stand corrected.

Perhaps, Chernobyl, you are someone who likes a mop of pubes, and thinks all people are the same. Not everyone thinks like that though, which is a good thing in my view.

I would stick with the scissors and some patience. Granted I steer clear of the whole scrotum area...too much rough terrain and too much to lose.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 975 ✭✭✭j0e9o

i like to trim them down with scissors and shave it down with an electric razor i also fully shave my scrotum with the electric and leave a little hair on top so it looks porno style

Ask any doctor and they will STRONGLY advise against every trimming your pubic hair. In these cold winter months, the freezing weather can severely affect both the amount of and healthiness of your sperm.
In a cold climate like Ireland you can't afford to be without your pubic hair at any time of the year. And if a woman doesn't like the look of a thick pubic patch then she isn't worth your time anyway.

what are u? a yeti? the more you shave the worse it gets. leave your balls alone, they are not designed to be shaved thats why they are so sensitive

Oh god no, my poor sperm will freeze to death! Or will be killed either by spermicid or existing outside of a human body for more than 8 hours. I'm not trying to get anyone pregnant at the moment so I am not really to conserned.

To CleverThanYou and Chernobyl, to each their own.

Instead of shaving, Use the Beard and Mustache trimmers. Then you can use the gaurd on them and leave tha hair as tidy as you like. Just make sure you get one with a gaurd or else you'll be scalped. ;)

Okay, as a member of the female species, I have to be honest and say I can't bear baldy nuts, ugghhh. I hate it, please, please men for f*** sake stop shaving yourselves or waxing, etc. Okay I am being selfish, maybe most women like baldy nuts, but I hate it. To the original poster, if you really feel its important to keep it trim then believe it or not use a pair of baby scissors, they have a blunt edge at the tops to prevent a cut/incision into delicate areas, and yet sharp enough to do a good cut. I do keep myself trim but I am not into baldness, to me its ugly, and there is a selfish reason for being trim, everything is more sensitive but as for men being bald down below, for me no thanks.

I agree with McGinty ... I'm female.. and have never been with a fellow that shaved down there... not that I noticed anyway... its such a female thing to do... mind you.. I'm not really into the whole tanned, oiled up stipper kind of fellow... men are more sexy when they are easy going and comfortable with the way they are naturally... but thats just my opinion...
but if you are still into the idea...personally I have discovered a thing called finishing touch... its a really delicate rasor seemingly ... *I'm still waiting for mine to arrive in the post!:D * ... I have tried most things ... word of advise.. if any one mentions an epilator... run ... its a device with lots of little twisors that pluck all the hair out...the end product looks class .. especially if you are removing all the hair .. but if you have delicate skin you may get a few ingrowns.. which aren't nice... I recommended getting a delicate rasor and an exfoliating brush... leaves your skin nice and soft... but as I said ... I'm a girl... and I don't think I'd fancy seeing my fellow at this!

Anyone ever try using hair removal cream down below?

Must try .... to not make fun of ... the fragmented fragments .... if I can just manage .... the reach the bomb ... before the time runs out ...

    Doctor Evil's Childhood
    written by Mike Myers

Dr. Evil: The details of my life are quite inconsequential.
Therapist Oh no, please, please, let's hear about your childhood.

Dr Evil: Very well, where do I begin?

My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery.

My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet.

My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Some times he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.

My childhood was typical, summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really.

At the age of 12 I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian woman named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it.
Therapist: You know, we have to stop.

I am not going to risk another period in the "sin bin" by advising you to get a cannister of petrol and douse them well ..then apply a lighted match.
Shel'l be right as rain after a few days and no more probs.

No my advice ..leave the nethers alone .... they are meant to be like that....its a scent thing....check it out!

I dunno... I think that sounds like some pretty good and constructive advice. Hell if someone wants to shave their balls they might as well singe them a bit and do the job properly. Not that you'll see me getting anywhere near my nads with a quart of petrol and a lighter.

I use the straight razor from bellybutton to shaft and the cordless ceramic trimmer from there. In the summer I get less Ire trimmed thusly than if I was hairy as a monkey! It looks and feels better to me also!Use the Nivea or whatever but the itching gets less or bothers less the more u do it!

I know only too well, he he he. :D:D

One of my friends shaves his nether region because of a proposal a girl made to him(an English model who was in FHM before, God she was lethal). Anyway she said she would suck his tea bags if he did, now who wouldn't???

Also, I tried shaving my bum bum before, now talk about an itchy hole, it was like the Flea Olympics were being held between my cheeks, . . . .for a week????

Nowadays I like to prune my hedge with a scissors and be done with.

i was not really aware of this section of male grooming either i must say. admittedly its not something that comes up in converation with my mates typically.

anywho i let it grow wild and free and its never been an issue. the only time it was ever touched was when i was having a hernia operation a few years back and some of the hair on the top of my leg and some of the top of my pubic hair needed shaving before the operation. i'd say its sop though.

i had absolutely no idea that men did this, i thought it was only girls.
is it really necessary?? it's not like you wear weensy bikinis (though that's not much of a prob here in sunny ol' ireland anyway) and boy panties are generally much bigger than girl panties......
teeheehee, i'd opt for scissors if i were you

Never mind the razors and creams.
Real men use Black and Decker strimmers....

BTW one of you b*st*rds could have warned me about the after shave...
