    People were rooting machines left right and centre through bugs in older versions of qwsv - so don't laugh - they could very well be exploitable too.

    It is a security risk, read up on the net about qwsv. Its always and still is ridiculously insecure. And from what i've read Zoid doesnt give a toss about making it more secure.
    Numerous exploits to get root, they even advise you to run the program as root. But cannt they put it up on a machine with a firewall between it and the rest of their network?

    they advise you to run the program as root because they think people will **** up the priorities or something if they dont.

    i used to run it under a normal user account on the old linux box in trinity, and we got steady 13 ping from it

    and you would need telnet access to the machine to get root in the first place, not many quake players are going to have telnet access to quake.indigo.ie

    just dont run it as root

    Ack, play on bw and u'll be sorted tho it wood b nice to have our servers back. I get a 150 and sometimes lower there. Unfortunetly, its prone to ping spikes and i usually only play dools there as the arena server gets laggy with too many peeps. Other than that...
    elvis.barrysworld.com:27531 is the arena server, its also sometimes used for rocket arena which truely rox.

    ya modemers were getting 300+ pings , and that was the best so i took the server down
    , btw the best pings u should get would be 55 - 60 being on heanet so if u want ill put it back up
