If you create a report in Access can you publish it as a standalone program that can run on a PC without Access ?

You can if you have Office Developer edition.

The snapshop thingie (can't remember what it's called) that's included with recent versions of regular Access will only allow people to view reports. I see you've used the word "reports" though so this might do.

Ah so it might be posible !

Using Access 97 to query live data on an SQL dB if that narrows it down. What is the option to save / publised called ? - damn hard to look up stuff on technet unless you know what it's called in microsoftese*

*a strange dialect of english where words take on new meanings where "remove all" means leave over 100 files / settings behind

Just checked (first time I've actually opened Access 2002 on this PC, haven't done any Access development in a few years). It's called Snapshot Viewer
About report snapshots and Snapshot Viewer
A report snapshot is a file (.snp extension) that contains a high-fidelity copy of each page of a Microsoft Access report and that preserves the two-dimensional layout, graphics, and other embedded objects of the report.

Snapshot Viewer is a program that you can use to view, print, and mail a snapshot, such as a report snapshot. Snapshot Viewer version 9.0 consists of a stand-alone executable program, a Snapshot Viewer control (snapview.ocx), a Help file, and other related files. By default, Snapshot Viewer is automatically installed by Access the first time you create a report snapshot. You can also install Snapshot Viewer from the Setup program, or from a software download page located on the Microsoft Office Developer's Web site.

You can use the Snapshot Viewer control to view a snapshot from Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.0 or later or from any application that supports ActiveX controls, such as Access or Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications.

You use Access to create a report snapshot. However, you can view, print, store, publish, distribute, and archive a report snapshot without having an Access license by using a combination of Snapshot Viewer and other programs such as Microsoft Windows Explorer, an e-mail program, or a Web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Here's the bad news: AFAIK this was first introduced in Access 2000 so it's probably no good to you.

How about just manually exporting the resulting reports to rtf or html (with report open, File-> Export, should be there as an option in the dropdown)?

    http://www.google.com/microsoft.html

I find this a lot easier than Microsoft's search engine. Off topic but there ya go.

Unfortunately Access is used to query a live SQL dB and do some processing.. so it is more of a RUN a report tool rather than VIEW a report (at present it's exported in to Word for viewing)

BTW: for many years I just added the word "technet" to Altavista / Google rather the use the M$ search engine, you also pick lots of tips out side the M$ site...
