Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How do I get both of these to talk to each other?

Is there a way to get my phone numbers from the 6310i to and from the PC using the Palm?

Note: I have no bluetooth or IRDA on my PC and I don't have a data cable for the 6310i.

    hi,

when you say talk to each other are you wanting to do

if it's to go online can you say which operator and are you pre/post pay, and what Palm OS version are you running (on the home screen can you tap the menu item in the graffiti area and select Info from the menu, then tap Version)

Edit: scrap that GSMTool suggestion for trying to sync contacts - just tried it with a 6310 and funny things started to happen (with a Plam V upgraded to OS4.1) - last time I used it with an earlier handsets and it was better behaved...

Really only want to get my phone numbers from the phone but if theres anything else I can do thats a bonus. How did you get 4.1 on the Palm? I've got 3.5 something on it. Whats extra on 4.1? my Palm is shagged anyway. Have to reset the digitiser withdigifix almost everytime I use it and the far right and left buttons are broken. I'm still using it though since my old Pocket PC died and someone gave me this one for free.

check out the likes of handango.com and palmgear.com - but options can depend on Palm OS version as to if (and how well) they may run - GSMtool was nice but the guy gave up developing on it a while ago

i bought the 4.1 upgrade CD from Palm, they just upgraded then standard apps and provided better connectivity and some extra apps for SMS, WAP browser, Dialer etc... not worth shelling out for it at this stage though (especially if your PDA isn't well)

'back in the day' my trusty Palm was III dialing up over infrared doing mail ane web happily enough on 3.x

so you can POP email with the likes of Eudora Internet Suite via a GSM handset (need to make sure you are on the latest OS patches though), it also has a text only web browser
    http://www.eudora.com/internetsuite/

you can get online mobile web with the likes of Avant Go - using it's online browser capabilities

depending on you operator and type of account you should be able to achieve a GPRS or HSCSD connection - but it's been a little while since i was running a 3.x Palm so i'd need to take one out of retirement and flash it back first to get the steps together (so it would be a fair bit of hassle if you weren't planning on using it much / if you palm sounds like it's close to the end...)

Yeah don't bother unless its handy. When I've a bit of spare cash I'll be getting a Pocket PC, and the Palm will be put to rest.

One other thing. I want to clear the address book on the Palm but it will only let me delete the entries one by one. How do I do the whole address book in one go?

always found the quickest way was to use an empty palm desktop address book (if that's an option for you?) and then set the address book conduit as 'desktop overwrites handheld' and sync

in case you want to erase the whole PDA - you can hold down the on/off button while doing a reset - then push the up button to agree to wipe the device

Ta thanks for the tip, didn't think of doing it from the desktop side. DOH! :D

    Hi,
I use funsms on a handspring visor, this has a component which copies the phone address book on to the palmtop. The addressbook can then be used when doing text messages.

You can use the trial version to see if it suits.

i've thought about this further and you will need to borrow a data cable or get use of a laptop with an IR port no matter what you do ie. in order to get software on to the palmtop.

I can connect my palm to the desktop via the cradle etc no problem. Its getting the mobile and the palm talking to each other is what I'm interested in.
