pc looks like a rebadged medion to me

Seems like a fine system. I think the DVD writer is multi standard, guessing from the french site. The media card slots at the front along with USB etc would be very handy also. Pity it's so close to Xmas :(

If I were spending that much money on a machine I'd rather have the ability to specify each part myself, particularly something as core as the motherboard.
having said that I've seen several of these medion machines and they seem like very good value for money, are feature-packed - if not with the ultimate highest quality components - with decent reliable tech and usually sell like hot-cakes.
perfect if you don't care if you have a 865 or 875 chipset or don't know the difference between RAID levels and JBOD.

They seem to have this offer in lots of countries at the moment.

    Germany €1179
    Austria €1249

Just seen this in the RTE guide (advert for Aldi, offers thursday the 27th)

looks real well speced. However it's advertised for €1299.99 not €1250.

Think I'll get one. Got one (aldi medion system) about two years ago and it was a very high speced machine back then, still is. Excellent machine that has never let me down. I'll be selling my current one and up grading me thinks......

i'd still like to know what a radeon 9800 XL is? as far as i know the XT's don't come in a 128mb version?

any sign of some high spec laptops?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,339 ✭✭✭✭tman

would i be right in thinking that it has no OS nor monitor?
still a pretty good deal i suppose...

Funny it doesn't mention OS. It comes with software like PowerDVD and stuff. I know it doesn't come with monitor, and they are selling a TFT monitor seperately for €250

Just noticed that the link to French Aldi by Greenman, now shows a DivX DVD player for €79! That can't be bad? Wonder if it'll appear in Irish shops.

would I be wrong in saying that there is no HT chip with a 800FSB with the exception of the 3.2Ghz "extreme"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,560 ✭✭✭Woden

i thought all the "c" chips had HT on them? could be mistaken though

    edit, yep check this out

Their's no monitor with that pc from what i know .....so add on like 200 euro for a decent 17"

Other than that it's a fine looking pc top of the range

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 212 ✭✭paulj13

Your right the Aldi medion's never came with a monitor but I real don;t see that as an issue.

In the RTE guide it has a full list of a the software that comes pre bundled which includes:

Windows XP Home Edition preloaded and on recovery disk
    Microsoft Works suite 2004
    MS word
    MS Money 2004
    MS Photo standard
    MS Encarta Encyclopedia
    MS autoroute 2004
    Cyberlink Power DVD 5
    Cyberlink Media Show
    Cyberlink Power VCR II
    Cyberlink Power Director
    Nero Burning Rom 5
    Music Match Jukebox
Lot of other bits and pieces

Can't see a floppy drive. I seem to remember that the last one of these didn't have one but there was a slot for one.
