I watched a Japanese horror film called "St. John's Wort".

I'm not sure why St. John's Wort is supposed to be a scary herb, but perhaps the governement knew what it was doing when it made it perscription only.....

Anyway, this is based on a resident evil style computer game apparently and it certainly works alot better than the horrible Resident Evil film.

This film ruins itself with possibly the worst last 5 seconds ever though.

The Last Samurai - A very apathetic "meh" to this one. I hope "A Mighty Wind" (seeing it tonite) is better!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

Mighty Wind is good... but no where near as good as Best in Show.

    Identity.

'twas good enough. Kinda lost it towards the end though, I figured out what was going to happen, and in the time it was happining I was busy thinking of ten ways it could have happined better.

    Worth seeing anyway.

Dragon, The Bruce Lee Story, (the directors commentary is quite good)
    12 Monkeys,
The Matrix, a victim of its own success, all the rip-offs and parodies have made this film a bit of an endurance test to watch objectively. The crappy sequels didn't help either

I presume that Sci-fi one last night with Freddi Prinze Jr was Wingcommander. It was entertaining enough but any kind of intimacy between the characters was rubbish. The effects were quite reasonable though.

The Faculty, never seen it before but it brought a smile to my face :):)

i cheat a bit, it was tonight.

was "girl with the pearl earring"

one of the best produced films i have ever seen, both leads were excellent [although they didnt say much] the people i went to see it with have actually read the book and they only thought it was ok. brilliant imo.

Indeed. Someone, somewhere said that movie was at least ok..... -it's not, it's the worst piece of crap I've seen in a while.

Thank god they showed Trainspotting directly after it.....that movie is still as good as the first time I saw it, a classic.

    Brazil (Directors Cut).

Bloody great film. Love the visuals, and it's predictions of a bureaucratic world run largely (although you could never get the paper work to prove it) by Information Retrievals doesn't seem to've been that far fetched if you care to stop and think about it.

It pissed me off when I heard that they cut a vital bit from the US cinema versions.
When the girl dies, and yer man is told, he's relieved almost because the clerical papers had her already marked as dead. In the European version the guy then corrects him and says there had been some error and that her name was put through a second time - meaning she was really dead. In the US version this line is ommitted meaning the girl escaped safely. What bo77ocks.

the DVD I have comes with an altranate 'Love Conquers All' cut of the film. It was commissioned by the studio for US networks - about 45 minutes shorter (a nice'n'easy 1hour 30mins) and so chopped to shreds it's almost a differint film altogether. crazy.

Just finished watching the big lebowski. Very funny in parts, especially the end, scattering the ashes had me in stitches. :D

    Desperate Hours.
I'd seen it years ago, and couldn't remember being very impressed. I really enjoyed it though.
Micheal Keaton is one of my favorites, he has a fantastic range as an actor. I'm still waiting for him to get that one role which will see him hit the really big time.

That's the first time I've heard that comparison. There's not many crappy movies to compare it to, other than the rest of John Woos movies. Minority Report is good.
