Eircom outage in 0505 area

My phone was out of action for 4 hours tonight from 10pm to about 2.20 am. Kept getting a recorded voice saying your phone service has been suspended due to a fault, a limited local service is available. I could not get through to anything local or otherwise, even the law was unreachable. What would cause a fault like…

I could not get through to anything local or otherwise, even the law was unreachable. What would cause a fault like this? Wouldnt this cause problems if someone was hurt and coudnt get help?

Did anyone else experience this outage?
