    Personal Video Recorder

I am thinking of building a Pc that i can put in the sitting room that i can use to record television to. I know you can get Mpeg2 encoder card that will encode the tv input straight to an mpeg file. Which i can then write to a DVD or CD or whatever. im gona stick in a decent sound card as well along with a big hard drive for saving the files.

So has anyone done this before, how much space does the mpeg2 files take up and how good is the quality. is there any encoder cards you would recommend.
