why does everyone leave the wwwboards and the quake community and then return to say 'thanks for saying goodbye and all your kind words and eh... goodbye again' and then they're back then the next week or the next day or the next month. and everyone thinks they've gotten rid of them. but there they are. "just here on my mates 166" "just dropping in from office" "just thought i'd set-up my old laptop" "hello, i'm back"

I presume this is aimed at me (and/or bubbles).

Let me just clarify something. I'm not going away. In fact if anything you are going to see me more often.

I'm not stopping organising (that would be like saying I'm going to stop breathing) I'm just not going to organise stuff for the general public.

There WAS a community there once but the problem with an open community is that if you open the doors without a bouncer you quickly attract an unwelcome element. I allowed that element free ride because I was sorting stuff for my mates, now, I'm just going to organise private events/boards/lans/teams etc.

It occured to me that while Dan and I were spending time and energy moderating the boards the majority of users now didnt want moderation and viewed us as "nazis" "fascists" and other unpleasantness. This isnt a petulant response, but our efforts were for the community only, god knows we dont need the extra work.

I wont be back because I'm not going away.
Dan and I would reconsider moderating the boards again if a critical mass of readers/posters asked us to, because then we would know we had a mandate.

However I'm putting things in motion that may supersede that anyway. More anon. Or maybe not .

Well you've got my vote, I'd also suggest somesort of FAQ and/or charter like the newsgroups have so the general rules could be established. That way if a moderator got called a facist or whatever we could all just shout "Read the FAQ at http://www.somewebsite.com/faq"

Not a bad idea Predator, we could have a dictatorship, personally though I'd prefer a monarchy, (it's got more kewl ass rituals).

The one problem though is that in most dictatorships your not actually allowed leave the place were it is (Cuba, North Korea etc.) so we'd all have to stay in here all the time and not be able to check our Hotmail or goat pr0n.

Oh and Dev doesn't actually have a beard anymore and everybody knows that you have to have a nice beard/moustache to be a dictator (Castro, Stalin etc.)

Freedom of speech would be right out as muppets would rounded up into Muppet Concentration camps and exterminated.

There are two types of muppet, one is the genuine newbie just looking for a helping hand, and then there are the stupid twats that just discovered the boards while looking for porn and decide to fill it with rubbish. You are one of those. Shutup.

Dev, on the subject of ure adminning.
Don't bother with the boards, its too much work because of the many reasons have been laid out before. But don't toss the team away. Team.ie and its followers/transport etc are more than some stupid skill-base concoction, they are a group of mates and you're the man to run the team, firstly coz ure the best at it, and secondly because the ppl that matter want you to run it.
Don't bother with the stress-inducing moderating of the boards/server/irc. Let the apes run the zoo if they want.

I never came back to say thanks for the kind words etc. For all intenceive purposes i was moving to London, had a night out with my mates saying goodbye etc etc. When i got back i never even said anything on the boards about it. You wanna get at me to annoy me go for it you'll be waiting a long time. i'am not going to explain why i had to return home again after only a couple of weeks it's none of yours or anyone else's business.

FutureQuakeDood does have a point, even though it doesn't really apply to DeV. There have been so many 'Goodbye Quake' posts on this board and its previous incarnation that it has really gotten ridiculous. Most people that said they were going came back within a few months.

No matter what you do there are always going to be <unts who try and mess it up for everyone else. It like stupidity - its universal. No matter who it is that moderates these (or any other boards) somebody is going to be offended by what they see as restrictions on there freedom.

I didn't post that to make a sad boast about how long I or any of the lads were playing. I was talking about all the power-tripping going on here, on the servers and on irc, by ppl who think an admin password or a year's playing makes them so l33t and gives them the power to do a comic-shop-owner on everyone else. That's what pi$$ed off Bunny, and Bunny NEVER gets pi$$ed off.
Some new guy goes onto the CA server and because he's a bit slow to set teams he gets booted or if not then probably abused. Someone asks a completely LEGITIMATE question on the boards and straight away they get laughed at and slagged.
You didn't see Bunny or Slaanesh or any of them prancing around with their admin passwords when you started playing Quake, demanding the way things were run, yet it goes on now, aren't ye so fu<kin l33t. well in our eyes someone like you is still a newbie, so get off of your high horse.

dev said he was finished organising stuff for the general public, not giving up quake.
on the subject i think he should continue with team.ie, as lets face it, its not the general public, its the irish team.

JM did indeed post a bye for now post, but as he said ts his business and only his and hes right, he didnt post 'im back with a vengence' post.
hes allowd to come home and play if he likes.

on the other hand, ppl have been saying goodbye for various reasons and then come back
some ppl have said they are quiting because of lack of access to net etc. cicumstances change and if they can play again then good luck to then.

if someone decideds to come back then its their own wish. no-one held a gun to their head and said they had to play.

ffs, get on with your life, play your game (be it 7 shades of brown quake, slow rocket no axe q2, nice and shiney q3a or killing spree UT) and try to happy.

I agree with Sam...I met Zero when he was number one in Ireland...and he didn't take the **** 'cos I was newbie and I ended up learing most of the little I know from him. He'd sit there and play and tell why he was doing what he was doing and why I should use it in my game. He was simply telling DeV to forget about moderating all this **** and to concentrate on the main thing...the team that represents us all! And believe me...after seeing DeV in action at Rapture...he truely is the best man for the job...that's my opinion. An older member posts his opinion and the next thing you are all calling him l33tist....I saw nothing to indicate that in his post....stop the ****ing whinging!
