Another Physics question (non - quake)

A car of mass 800kg is travelling due north at 30m/s when it is involbed in a head-on collision with a truck of mass 30 tonnes travelling due south at 25m/s. Calculate (1)
the initial velocity of the wreckage, (2) the magnitude of the change in velocity of (a)the truck, (b) the car.

its a question of concervation of momentum

momentum is velocity by mass

hence you can work out the mass of the car
cant remember hte formula off hand for the second bit, but you get the idea

and i don't think v=u + at applies to this question, but i am a dumbass and don't know

speed*mass+speed*mass=speed*mass

800*30=24,000
30,000*25=750,000
750,000-24,000=726,000
726,000/30,800=23.5714285714285714285714285714m/s due south
