Calling all graphics ninjas! - Competition!

Okay,

Challenge-IE is going for the new-look - like all the other challenge-sites (complete with columns for all our top players). Now's the time to make yourself famous by designing a banner for us in a uniquely Irish style!!

This community if chock full of great artist type people - Cloud, MP, FB, Chaos, Vexorg, etc.

I'd prefer if the banner were humorous, quake oriented (q1,2,3 don't care - prolly Q3 as it's the future, or Q1 as it's the original) and uniquely Irish.

here's an example of the banners that other nations are using:

So that's basically it - the banner should be of the size 1590 x 90 pixels and the principle colour of the winning banner will determine the colour scheme of the site.

U see we can actually have a realistic
symbol . A gun of some sort. A grenade or
a shotgun or a machine gun rocket launcher
maybe. Not too far fetched in certain areas
of Ireland.

I think a "Usual Suspects" line up ala the film, complete with height-measuring-background and serial numbers would be a laff...

I think a Q1, 2 and 3 guy's sitting in a pub drinking guinness would be cool I might have a go at that meself.

I't s all up to yourselves - do whatever you want and we'll ahve a vote on them here on the boards. I think shamrocks are a bit schlocky though imo - like it's not a bord failte site

Yes, in order for any of us to draw up some sketches and mess about with this, we need to know the name and size of the font used in ALL the other banners.

Otherwise, it won't look right, and I won't win.

Gwan Muso, since we thought of the same thing at the same time, I guess this is partially your entry too.

Anyway, had some spare time (great what not being an admin does for you!) and came up with this...



Needs more work but its a first round draft.
I'm sure someone can do better but I like it!

ok, I've altered the site to show that image (even tho its unfinished) so that we can see what it looks like in place.

I'll do this with all the entries (so no cries of foul!) so we can see them in place.

hmm, for some reason the text just doesnt look right?
maybe its the missing shadows in the background, or maybe it just looks like the height and width arent right..im not sure.

maybe you should change it to guinness.ie

The text colour is wrong i reckon...it doesn't stand out enough...you want it to be the centre point.....it blends in too much with the background of the piece....

yeah the frickin jpb process converted my lovely crisp white (which stood out nicely) to an icky cream.

The text is identical to the others, because I nicked it from them.

"Guinness" is going to change to Team.ie in the same font as "guinness".

the text should be whiter
maybe your graphics program likes guinness head coloured text!
and stick in the shadow in a dark cream colour.. the same colour as the guinness head on the top of he banner.


but really, apart from the guinness, what really typifies ireland?
france have the eiffel tower, australia ayres rock.
what do we have?
potatoes?
bacon and cabbage?
gay byrne?

how about an small 3d isometric map of the country?

Well I just trawled around 4000 fonts and couldn't find it. I neeeed it cos otherwise I have to manually anti-alias. And I haaaaate that.

Two "release candidates" and a couple more for your amusement. The font is a bit crap cos I couldn't find the truetype anywhere.

The background is of course the Guinness head one but as Dev said it just has to have that.
