I would say hospitals. I couldnt really complain about anything else. There should be 4 major hospitals in the north. The regional 1s should be scraped.

    1 for tyrone and armagh.

    Antnegelvin does derry.

Theres a decent one in Antrim which would cover that.

    And the Mater in Belshafto.

    Sorted.

I think they should start at the source of all of the above problems - education. I've seen from Derry alone, the appauling state of the education system, and the fact that teachers really just don't give a flying f*ck about most of the students.

I personally went to a private school who actually made an effort to teach the pupils, but the rest of my family went to public schools and from dealing with their teachers and the way they teach the classes there's no wonder so many people are leaving school early without any form of education or future.

The lack of education means a lot of people aren't getting themselves in the situation which would further them in employment, which is giving the impression that a lot of people in the town aren't up to the job. A lot of businesses are passing by because of our reputation and even if not looking at local businesses, people aren't even able to move anywhere else to get a job because they still don't have the qualifications.

A lot of people i've gone to school with have formed their own businesses and shops in the town and in other towns, based on very simple ideas, but because they knew what they were doing to start with and had the push, they went for it where most people would be happy to sit on the brew! If more people had a better education they would also have more incentive to futher themselves through third level education, but mostly they are leaving because they don't think they're capable. If we had more people going through 3rd level education then we might have more people looking for positions as doctors etc, which might relieve the understaffed hospitals we have atm. Now I know a lot of that has to come down to budget as well, but with so many people in N.Ireland unemployed are you really supprised that the budget is so bad?

If education was bettered, we could look at more people actively looking for work as they have the qualifications most positions look for. With more people actively looking for work in different fields, we might attract more people to the area. Maybe even in areas such as computing if we have more people educated in that area and the North was seen as somewhat of an expert area in that field, people might come here. Now I know a lot of companies just look for the cheapest solution, but I was just using that as an example.

If we could then get these people educated and employed, even if N.Ireland get their own power, then I wouldn't have a problem paying that 1% extra on my wages for a decent medical service. With less people unemployed it would mean less benefits going to waste (I know not all people claiming are able to work, but some people just take the piss!!) and more to go on health.

OK now some of these ideas seem a little stretched, and may take time to work out anyway, but i've seen the way teachers treat their students. I mean from listening to some teachers i'm of a very firm belief that a LOT of sectarianism in children these days isn't necessarily passed on by parents, but is also contributed to by teachers. I've seen families who try to keep their children out of religious and political bias, but the teachers just put the ideas into their heads. Teachers these days are going unchecked and the things i've heard them say to people....

One time I heard a teacher pick the GCSE subjects for one of their pupils because the pupil was off school sick when the time came to choose them. When the pupil asked why she picked the subjects for them, the teacher replied "Because it doesn't matter what you pick - I know you're not going to pass them anyway". Now it's this kind of behaviour causing a serious downwards spiral in todays youths mentalities. Causing them to have a level of self loathing and fear for bettering themselves. This in turn causes them not to push that bit harder, and not to try for those dreams. It means people end up depressed (in long term situations) and end up having to go on the sick because of it.

As far as i'm concerned this has to stop. Either put more money into education and sort it out, or get tougher on teachers and sort out the attitudes that they're passing onto the youth of tomorrow....

[edit] Vote ][cEMAN for your political candidate! [/edit]

Have to agree with Mr_Roger_Bongos and pick health.

but disagree with the regional hospital point..

I do think Mid-Ulster should have a hospital... most people in Mid-Ulster are an hour from a *major* hospital, but that’s no use if you need quick assistance.

*on the point of education -> the North doesnt do a PGCE in business studies... you would have to go to the *mainland* for that... that would need to be sorted... and the student fees need sorted.
