And you really believe they want such negative publicity, appearing incompetent two days in a row?

I don't think they'll sell less computers because they sometimes sell them too cheap?

I don't think this will make the slightest difference in their sales.

We're not talking "too cheap" here.
We're talking practically free. I mean the shipping alone would cost more than 21.90.

430 PC's at 21.90 as opposed to 430 PC's at 1500.00 euro would make a significant difference to Dell's sales figures

Don't hold your breath. They said on electric news they'd be contacting ppl in the next 24 hours to let them know their order wouldn't be honoured.

Not a chance. They're legally covered so that they don't have to. They've made mistakes like this before. At the most they'll send out a few units as a "gesture". Don't count on it anyway. It'd cost them too much.

I ordered once aswell though cos I'm such a chancer :) Not expecting anything though.

Yeah right, Id like to see them try explain away an unexpected loss of $300k+ to their American overlords.

This is the mail being sent out
    Dear Mr. ****,

Dell wishes to inform you that unfortunately your order cannot
be processed due to a technical error on the web site where the
incorrect price of the system has been listed.
On this occasion, the temporary error in our Internet store was
evident as it was not within the range of our system pricing.
Dell removed the incorrect information as soon as it practically
    could.
Under Dell?s Terms and Conditions of Sale, which state that orders
are only binding when Dell accepts the order and sends out the
Order Confirmation in writing, which it has not done in this
case. In addition, under applicable law, if there is an obvious
error on a website, Dell is under no obligation to accept a customer
    s order.
I am sorry if this comes as a disappointment to you, but trust
you understand Dell?s position in this matter.

    Yours sincerely,

    Dell Customer Care

Nothing we didn't expect here then.

You are right but once in a while I try boards.ie and am able to use it fine. They seems to switch it on an off for when they want to look at it. I use www.amegaproxy.com to view boards no problem.

Oh and that Cancellation charge? Dell never charge anything for canceling an order, who every you spoke to was taking ****.

Dell Ireland touts PCs for €28 (yes, it was a mistake)
    By electricnews.net
    Posted: 01/12/2003 at 11:04 GMT

A pricing blunder at Dell Ireland's online store led to it inadvertently selling PCs for €100 and less.

In a statement, the company said that on Thursday (Nov 27), human error led to an incorrect price being posted on the Irish store, Dell.ie. One Dell Dimension system was featured, retailing at the incorrect price of €111.61. Given the fact that customers can customise their systems, options selected by the individual customer meant the price could have appeared as low as €28.

According to Dell, the correct retail price should have been €1,116.10 including VAT and delivery. The company said that the error was quickly identified and rectified by its pricing monitoring team. A system is in place to identify irregular purchasing patterns on the site.

However, the 90 pe rcent discount was in place long enough for several hundred orders to be placed. The company said that approximately 430 people ordered the incorrectly priced system.

Dell said it regrets the error, but stated that it is not legally obliged to honour this price, as all orders submitted to Dell are subject to order confirmation with customers and this was a clear and obvious mistake to all concerned. "Our automatic e-mail acknowledgement of receipt of orders also points out that we are not responsible for typographical or other errors, and that we reserve the right to cancel any orders resulting from such errors," Dell said. The company is to offer customers the choice of cancelling their order, or ordering at the correct price.

Word of the pricing gaffe spread quickly over the Internet. Several visitors to online bulletin boards claimed that they had ordered machines with some individuals saying they had ordered several machines.
