switching networks - how involved?

I'm thinking of switching from Vodafone Ready-to-go to O2 Speakeasy. Has anyone done the network switch? Is there much disruption involved? I know the website says "oh you should only be without network contact for a few minutes" but it doesn't say whether they disable your vodafone access straight away and you have to…

I'm thinking of switching from Vodafone Ready-to-go to O2 Speakeasy. Has anyone done the network switch? Is there much disruption involved?

I know the website says "oh you should only be without network contact for a few minutes" but it doesn't say whether they disable your vodafone access straight away and you have to wait for your o2 sim before you're back up and running. Does the sim arrive in the post or does the O2 dealer give it to you? Should I let all my vodafone credit run out before calling into the o2 outlet with the changeover form?
