I don't think it is possible to do this.

The My Documents suffix wil always be present because that' what the redirection is designed to redirect.

    You say:
...is it possible to set it to say the root of the personl personal folder ie G:\ as a possed to G:\my documents....

What do you mean by 'possed'?

    I think he means "opposed".

    This should work fine:
Right click on the "My Documents" icon on the desktop and select "Properties".
In the "Target" box, select where you want Windows to set yout my documents to be ("G:" or "G:\").
What happens when you try that?

    Sinecure.

This will append the My Documents suffix tot he path by default....

Actually, on Server 2003, that works as Sinecure suggested...

    Sorry for the confusion!

OK I can do it with the Mydocs on the local machine
But I still can't seem to set it up in GPO for the whole organisation

No it doesn't - didn't under Windows 2000, and doesn't under Windows XP - just choose your folder, even if it is a drive root, and it'll accept it. I've used this to keep the My Documents folder on a seperate partition.

Deckie27, I'm not familiar with Windows Server environments, but perhaps this may be of some use.
