    I'm not sure if this is the right forum to be posting in but I'll try it any way, I'm a 56ker as you have guessed and I enjoy online gaming what games would preform sufffient for play on my connection without regular lag. I used to play cs alot and this worked fine for me but I recently upgraded my pc and last week I got steam and I lag something unreal like 1500ping I don't want to be payin monthly fees either. Any other game suggestions will consider all.

    try Call Of Duty, i've a 56k and my average ping is about 160. i hardly ever get any lag and if i do get a lag spike, it goes away after a couple of seconds. and i still managed to whup a few broadband players's asses :D

    There are some 56k only servers about.
    I know call of duty and medal of nonour have a few.
    Regarding steam i bet it is updating in the background.
    In steam go to "monitor" tab and see if indeed it is updating.
    If it is you can stop it as latest steam has a bug where it tries to update your games regardless if it already has updated.
    This causes severe lag.
    There are quite a few mods out there pretty good on 56k.
    Any half life mod,Urban terror[quake3 mod], or any unrealtournament 2003 mods should perform ok on 56k.
    Main thing is go for UK servers only,this is what i done in my 56k days and it worked a treat.
    Look out for them 56k only servers ,they r great for 56kers as low pingers are automatically kicked.

    TBH CS is one of the best games to use for 56k , get a good modem and get your settings right and your grand. I get a 130 ping usually to UK servers.

    Jolt have 56k only servers too , for CS. go to www.56k.jolt.co.uk

    you should look into upgrading your modem or its firmware to v9.2, might make a difference probably not much if you are stuck on a bad line or such

    stick with Counterstrike Uk servers and your fine on 56k, especially if you live in the east of Ireland coz we ping UK servers just as good as our english m8s on any equal connection as the servers are practically local anyway. Jolt or [UK2] work very well. Im on ISDN and get better Uk pings than i do Irish ones. You should get pings of 130-190 on Uk servers with a 56k modem but once your outside the UK zone those pings sky rocket on a 56 speeder.

    chowley.....you play in nethouse in cork?...

    a pleasurable 56k isnt possible really...its only aim is to make you comfortable before it dies....i think my 56k is actually getting better tho...web pages are flying but the d/l side of things lays down a soggy 1.4 on avg. dont know what to do....way too far out for dsl...until then im stuck with bots and single player i guess.....


    serious sam works on a 56k.....

    delta force land warrior works on a modem also........

    eve is your best bet for a game to play on a 56k...its soo sexy looking and it runs a dream also...my crappy pc stopped it from working properly instead of the connection...my friend ran it in 1600x1200 on a 56k and it worked fine...there's performance for ya
