    These heads might help:

    http://irelandfrance.com/

and you could also ask Enterprise Ireland, who have a rep or two in France.

If the people you are selling to in France are VAT registeres (in France) and you are also VAT registered here in Ireland then no VAT changes hands, you don't charge any and they don't pay any.

If they are not VAT registered then you are supposed to charge them VAT at the VAT rate in their local jurisdiction (whatever that may be in France)...but don't forget, that VAT doesn't belong to you and it doesn't belong to the Irish Revenue Commissioners, it belongs to the French commissionairs de revenueux :)

This is where Intrastat/VIES comes in to provide a channel for the re-payment of VAT between EU member states. It's all on the revenue website.

Of course, if you're not VAT registered then you can't charge VAT at all.

You need to work out where the VAT rules decide the service is rendered. For example (it's clearer with products than services) if you built a house extension in France, French VAT would apply, If you merely supplied the furniture Irish VAT would apply. With services it is more difficult to say where the service is delivered - it's obvious if it's a hair cut, less transparent if it is say financial services or programming. The are rules set out in the VAT book from www.revenue.ie or phone them to get advice.

What kind of service did you provide?
