Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Cole tackle was brutal , as was Gerrards and both deserve to be banned (I agree with a previous post that the after match apology is only a pr exercise). I do think that the papers seem to home in on Arsenal discretions but the clubs total backing of their players regardless of the incidents, only gets peoples back's up, which seems to fuel the papers even more.

I was thinking that it was great to read a thread without roy keane been mentioned but that was rectified quickly.

As a matter of interest, Do the urd fans think that Cantona should have been banned for his habit of two footed tackles?

What relevance does that have to this thread?

Just that they were his stock in trade for a while and it goes to show that unless these sort of tackles are proven to be malicious (stand up mr keane), they generally go unpunished past the initial ban incurred by the red card.

Im just wondering whats changed to make the manu fans who are well used to this suddenly start screaming for blood. Surely they dont need some more extra help from the FA for this years title push? :)

But how many red cards did United get in 5-6 years? Surely not 50+, I think that is the reason for this thread.

Cantona and Keane may have been bad, but Vieira and a few others at Arsenal are worse. Vieira has already surpassed Keane's red card tally AFAIK, and he is only 27 or 28. He'll probably catch up with their combined tally soon enough. And Cole, at his age is already heading down that road.

Are you saying that you weren't screaming for blood when Cantona and Keane were in their prime?

The difference is that viera or cole have never been banned for incidents that go beyond normal 'field of play' occurances.

Maybe if paddy used his suspension to plot his revenge on ruud, or Cole flings himself over a barrier to attack a fan, Ill come down a little heavier on them.

I guess what im trying to say is that yes, Arsenal have a bad disciplinary record and they pay the price for it in incurred suspensions but there is nothing in coles tackle that warrants any sort of extended ban past the one he will automatically incur.

Exactly, I would come down hard on Cole and Vieira, but it's not like you haven't called for blood when Keane made that challenge. And possibly the same for the Cantona incident. We are doing the exact same thing here. We are defending the players that play for the team we support. We are criticising the players that commit offences at other clubs. Its just natural.

True, PORN, it is natural but it is not a good thing. I have not defended SG's tackle on the weekend. Now I could have butit would have been wrong, just as somebody defending ashley coles tackle wuold be wrong or somebody else defending Keane who plenned to tackle a guy badly. If it was a bad and dangerous challenge then it should be punished, even if you did not make contact, the next time you might. IF ac had gotten him when his foot was hard in the ground that would leg could have been snapped in two.

I understand why people feel a need to defend their teams players, i often do it myself automatically, but people also have to recognise sometimes that wrong is wrong.

Exactly, Its the nature of the soccer supporter, But I Honestly do think the gunners are under a lot more pressure this year after last years collapse and are in danger of derailing their Season.

Agreed Dustaz, but I was not getting at or pointing fingers at anybody. Just saying that often people jump in blindly defending a player from the team that they support when in all honsty the action take was indefensible.

who says im scarred for life.??

so it has been revealed that poll saw gerards tackle and further discilpineary(sp?) action will not be by the fa because he saw it originally, so he bottled it big time!!

cole is being investigated by the fa for not leaving the pitch on time.

and yet nobody has yet mentioned howie amazing 50 yard run to sort things out his own way??!!
