Just heard he has ben charged with making a false tax declaration and has pleaded not guilty, he's been released on his own bail and is due back to face the music in the new year.

Oh yes he will be applying for legal aid *cough*

€4million for his house and he is going for free legal aid, there are other legal costs he could be stuck withb though, so maybe he is just being prudent. Maybe there is a justice system in this country after all :)

He's entitled to it, just like every other person in the country. There can be no double standards.

He is entitled to apply for it but as far as I know he must meet the criteria set out to actually qualify for it - bit of a difference.

To prove it!;) And since the CAB have hit for 2 million I don't think it will be hard.

Only people who can't afford their own defence are entitled to it. Did you see his house and cars in the Evening Herald today, I'm sure selling one of those would more than cover it.

Yes, but isnt it the case that he has applied for it, and not that it has already been granted??? Anyone can apply for legal aid....

If thats the case, surely we should and wait to see if he hangs himself further in making this case, or if it gets granted - and on what grounds if so....
