    Hi,

    I'm using a D-Link 802.11b card

    http://www.dlink.co.uk/pages/tech_support/246.htm

with my IPAQ 550 (PocketPC 2002). I've got it up
and running, it can detect the access point,
ping other devices connected to the access
point etc. My problem is when I open
Internet Explorer, it tries to connect via
a modem, and doesnt give me the
opportunity to connect via the wireless
    network card.

Anyone got a workaround for this??

    hi - can you check:

Start > Settings > Connections Tab > Connections Icon

The bottom drop-down box says 'My network card connects to:' is it set to 'The Internet'?

P.S. can you double check what model iPAQ are you using (usually has 4 digits)?

Actually, sorry, looked at it again and its a H3900.

And in the connections tab, I've tried both alternatives
of Work and Internet in the "My network card connects
    to" question, without success....

Of course that could be because when I try to configure
either of the internet or work settings it doesnt show
the wireless network card, but it is shown when
    I do

    start> settings > network adaptors

So thats probably the nub of my problem...

yeah - the adapter listing is really just for IP / DNS details - but usually the application loaded with a card handles the connection details ie. DHCP or manually configured etc..

i use the Symbol CF card (due to it's smart power management) - using the app that you have to install with the card you can check the status of the connection to make sure you are getting allocated an IP / DNS for you to use IE for browsing etc... and it hops onto the Net with no hassles once connected ok

this site is a great resource for PocketPC and WiFi:

btw, what are you connecting to?

    I'm connecting to a Netgear access point/router

    http://www.netgear.com/products/prod_details.asp?prodID=214

The D-Link software that installs on the PDA
shows the IP I pick up off the AP, and allows
ping tests etc, so I know that bit is working,
but I'm mystified as to why it doesnt show up
    in the configuration menu.

And I'm also somewhat peeved that there isnt
even a support email address that I can use to
ask them about it. I'll end up having to ring the
US support line and stay on hold for 15 mins.

Thanks for the tip about the website though,
I'll have a look at it and see if theres anything
    there about it....

Hmmmm, just changed to a standard access point
rather than a router access point and it worked
    straight away. Further investigation required
    methinks....
