Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

not too bad for Chelsea, should go through handy enough, stuttgart don't have the experience to beat Chelsea's squad.
    FC Porto v Manchester United
nice draw for Utd, nothing really to worry about for them
    Real Sociedad v Lyon
both teams will be happy with that draw I'd say
    Celta Vigo v Arsenal
    Arsenal avoid the big hitters
    Bayern Munich v Real Madrid
tie of the round, Bayern have a small chance of an upset, but I'd say Real will draw in germany and get a healthy win at home
    Sparta Prague v Milan
    Milan get lucky!
    Deportivo La Coruna v Juventus
another interesting tie, Juventus should go through easily enough though
    Lokomotiv Moscow v Monaco
both teams again should be happy enough with that draw, Monaco especially

Bayern Match is most certainly tie of the round. I can see Porto giving United some trouble though, they are not a bad team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

Of the Premiership teams, I reckon Chelsea face the toughest task, but I'd expect all three to go through. Real will wipe the floor with Bayern, who haven't lived up to their past achievements in the last two seasons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,312 ✭✭✭mr_angry

I think Deportivo La Corùna vs. Juventus will be tie of the round. Deportivo are in the top 3 in Spain, and are well capable of beating Juve. Pity they sold Roy Makaay in the summer though. He's the only reason I wouldn't write off Bayern Munich - Madrid are dodgy at the back, and if anyone can exploit that, he can.

Bayern - Real .... nice draw and I am sure it will be a good match...

Stuttgart - Chelsea... not sure how happy Chelsea is with that draw. Stuttgart is very happy with it. They considered Chelsea as one of the intresting teams to play. They think they have a chance.

The advantage for the german teams could be, that they have a winter break, where they can get their players back to fitness, injured players can recover, and they can charge their batteries....

I think the winter break made it two years ago possible for Leverkusen to compete in the second half of the competetion the way they did.

Some intresting ties, but Bayern-Real and Depor-Juve are for sure the hits...

i think the word you are looking for is flaming????

sorry had to point that out..

    back to topic...

from that draw i fancy Man Utd to go thru no hassle

That's a good contribution there Third.

Is it any wonder that so many threads descend into United V Liverpool slagging matches. I cannot see what value that comment brought to the thread but in making this comment you are showing how much of a United, rether than football fan you are.

BTW, you are wrong, a troll is not somebody who uses a different user name. There is a newbie faq that you can have a look at which will explain alot of this to you.

Just struck me how many fairly ordinary teams are left in the CL this year. This is a good chance for an English club to win it I reckon. The Uefa should be interesting enough as well with Valencia, Gala, Pool, Inter, Barca, Parma, Lazio, Celtic and Gala still in it..

Man your like this online too...

Everyone, Third is an Everton supporter and is a bit angry that the Everton B team (Liverpool) are an infinetly more successful club than the A team. So we weill just ignore him I think.,..

I agree with angry, Juve and Depe is the one that is causing my nuts to swell :D

Uefa cup draw- no really big ties yet apart from Valencia and Besiktas maybe:
    Brondy v Barcelona
    Parma v Gençlerbirligi

    Marseilles v Dnipro
    Celtic v FK Teplice
    Perugia v PSV Eindhoven
    Groclin v Girondins Bordeaux

    Brugges v Debreceni
    FC Sochaux v Inter Milan
    Liverpool v Levski Sofia
    Spartak Moscow v Mallorca
    Gaziantepspor v AS Roma
    Auxerre v Panathinaikos
    Valerenga v Newcastle United

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,441 ✭✭✭✭jesus_thats_gre

I am now waiting for Third to come back and slag any spelling mistakes I made or make a silly comment..

United will have a pretty easy run of things with Porto tbh.

    causing my nuts to swell

thats a bit racey for the football board... i call for a ban...

    being presumcious there again jesus...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,889 ✭✭✭Third_Echelon

I think the 3 English teams will be more delighted that Real got Bayern and Juve got Deportivo tbh. Even though Bayern aren't firing on all cylinders at the moment and Depor are a bit hit and miss, things could be very dirrerent come Smarch.

As for the UEFA Cup draw :o

    Levski Sofia...founded in 1914...ah it's all here...

    The homepage of FC Levski

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,889 ✭✭✭Third_Echelon

that Levski Sofia site has to be the worst webpage that ive ever seen... it hurts your eyes

    ...and head :p

Not a whole lot of effort went into the design methinks!

Don't write off Celta Vigo. They are a handy enough side and could certainly dump Arsenal out of the competition.

Think space coyote was right there, its good for the english teams that brian munich, depor juve and real all drew each other, no matter what form a tema like this is in they can always lift their game for big games.....

look forward to the football, should be some good games....

    john

That draw could have been alot worse for united. Thank god they didnt get munich

i think that munich will put Real out of the competition

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,456 ✭✭✭kida

Arsenal have been troubled by sides a lot worse than Celta Vigo.
Still think they will get through over 2 legs.

Chelski could find it tough against Stuttgart- they don't give anything away. Can see it being 0-0 at the end of 2 legs.

United should have no trouble against Porto - decent team but should cause no problems.

Delighted to see 2 of Real/Munich/Depo & Juve going out.

Porto must be the most underrated team in the CL. They are a super team and they are one of the three teams (Deportivo and Bayern the others) that everyone needed to avoid. I think this will be the upset of the round but if Porto were given enough credit it wouldn't actually be classed as an upset.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,003 ✭✭✭✭The Muppet

Theres no easy matches in the latter stages of this competition as theres very little between the teams. Porto are a good side and UTD will have to play at their best to go through.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,464 ✭✭✭evilhomer

    Valerenga v Newcastle United

    Newcastle definetly for that one

Valerenga are in the norwegian first division and are about 4 places from bottom of the table!!!

I can see Newcaslte going through

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,438 ✭✭✭TwoShedsJackson

Most of the people who post in this forum have never heard of Porto's players, apart from Deco maybe, so because they're not household names in Britain they think it inconceivable that they could beat Manchester United

    sporting lisbon?
Ricardo Quaresma was the other young fella that was being hyped up as the next Figo

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,116 ✭✭✭✭RasTa

No he came from Lisbon, Real Whooped Porto 3-1 there in Portugal and i expect United to do the same

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,164 ✭✭✭Space Coyote

Well Porto are the reigning UEFA Cup holders so they are a half decent side, even though they only had to beat a rubbish team like Celtic in the final. What English team did Celtic knock out again, I have selective memory ?
Anyhoo, I can see Man Utd losing maybe 2-1 away but comfortably beating them in Old Trafford.

P.S. If persons don't know that Fake Ronaldo and Ricardo Queresma came from Sporting Lisbon, then look it up on the net first and at least pretend ye know something about football !

Stuttgart - Chelsea, well except of Lyon maybe the easiest team Stuttgart could get. As long as they don't get Juve, Milan or Real Stuttgart has to be happy. Maybe they are able to make a wonder and reach the next round.

Bayern - Real, I wouldn't say it is that easy for Real. Bayern played very bad in the last months but i am sure they will come back in the next months and when they reach their old strength again real has to be afraid. 4 looses in the last 7 matches against them.
