'Freeloaders Anonymous' has a certain ring to it..

Good idea anyway, it recieves my damp shoe of approval.

This has come up again on the broadband board.
Seeing as bizmark has decided he doesn't want it there for whatever reason, has anyone given any thought to the suggestion?

I support the cause... and am willing to look after the people in the north.. :)

maybe boards should get something back for hosting it? 1 euro or something per cd.

    okey dokey, here goes.

Nothing m,uch seems to be happening about this for a while, so I'll have ba go at starting something off.

I have the following hardware that I am offering up the use of for the purposes (legal) file transfer.

DVD+/-RW for (Obviously) burning up to 4.7GB to blank DVD disks as either video or data. PLEASE don't post messages on boards asking me to burn pirated software or audio/video for you, as this is a community thing and absolutely MUST be kept legal. You've been warned!

I don't ahve broadband, so I can't download it, but I do have a 40gb USB2 Hard Drive, so anyone who has Broadband and lives in Dublincan do the downloading, and I'll do the burning.

I do have lots of software patches etc. which I'd be happy to share though. (I'll post a list in a little while)

    I'll add too...

Unlimited Access to 120Mbit line, and CD-RW.

I do not and will not run any file sharing programs such as Kazaa or BitTorrent, so only supply HTTP or FTP links.

I'll check everything I d/l and anything cracked or copyrighted will be deleted. I'll do single CD burns for nothing, but any more than that and I'll do the burn as soon as I receive the CDs in the post/hand delivered.

Anyone who complains when it's taking me a while to do it won't get a favour from me again :p

In Cork, got a DVD burner and DSL.

OK, so who do we need to speak to to get this sharing forum up and running?

i'm guessing we'll need a good few mods for it to keep pirate requests from getting any attention.

I'd propose a zero tolerance instant ban for anyone requesting anything dodgy, and a clear and concise list of what is and isn't allowed.

I'd be happy to put myself forward as a candidate as a mod for the new forum, but i'm not sure how that sort of thing would be arranged, so maybe someone else could get started on it.

In Cork, DSL and a shiny new CD-RW in the post. :)

Not sure about needing a lot of mods. Its not like Warez links are going to be posted. Any warez or copyright infringing requests will be dealt with severely and the poster banned.

    Simple enough rules.

And like the Bargains forum, if someone is requesting something the subject begins with [Request] and if they're offering its [Offering] or something like that.

A sticky with what people are offering would be handy too.

I think I mentioned it in another post, but I'd say the best way to do it would be to have someone post up a request like you said. Then someone replies saying they'll do it and the thread gets locked pretty quickly (not straight away though obviously) to stop the board turning into a spamfest.
Any requests for warez, porn, copywritten material etc. just results in the person getting banned.
WRT. mods, I'd say 2 or 3 would be enough (probably 3 to be safe) because a board like that just will attract a certain amount of muppets.

well I htink that if I'm going to bother my arse downloading a service pack I'm going to post up that i have it and does anybody else want it. I'm less likely to download on request. Anyway UTV BB two DVD-rw's and a couple of Cd - rw's, and a zip disk

Yeah, left that out of the last post. Lists of what people have would be a good idea too.

Actually I was thinking that a general iso could be created, containing the most common things people request,

Stick them on a well organised/structured cd and send it to a few people with cd burners around the place and then have them act as distribution nodes for their own areas.

Have this general iso updated on the first Monday of the month then.

I think this is a good idea. Needs a name though.

Calling it "File exchange" and putting it under community for now.

Warez monkeying will result in monkey wrenching.
