Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What a great result for us, lets hope we can go on and win it now and get into europe.

Chelsea actually had a pretty strong team out:

    34. Neil Sullivan
    2. Glen Johnson (55)
    26. John Terry
    13. William Gallas
    3. Celestine Babayaro
    15. Mario Melchiot
    14. Njitap Geremi
    10. Joe Cole
    4. Claude Makelele (45)
    11. Damien Duff (55)
    9. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

    SUBS
    6. Marcel Desailly
    8. Frank Lampard (45)
    21. Hernan Crespo (55)
    30. Jesper Gronkjaer (55)
    31. Marco Ambrosio (GK)

    GO ON THE VILLA

    Great Result

    Great Match

    Great Time Wasting

    What more could want

    What's the story with Angel?

He seem's to just come to life for some game's and do nothing for others

What is going on this season with all the managers playing players on their bad sides?
    Houllier with Kewell and Diouf
    Ferguson with Giggs
    Ranieri with Duff and Cole
    And the rest.

Duff hasn't got a right foot to his name. If he gets the ball on the right wing he will run with it but he will then have to stop, turn and cross. When he's on the left he runs riot. Joe Cole is just as good with both feet (if not right footed as we seen with his to great shots) so why the hell doesn't Ranners play him on the right and Duff on the left?

The substitutions were OK expept for taking Duff off. I probably would have taking Geremi off instead of Makelele too and switching Cole and Duff around.

A desicion like playing Duff on the right could be what is losing them the games. Whenever Duff plays a full match on he left (witch is very rear) he usually plays super (eg. Wolves, Lazio, Newcastle).

    Just saw Angel's goal

Fu.cking screamer, by far his best goal in a Villa shirt, even Ranieri said he was the diference.

Fair play to Ranieri he admitted Villa were better and deserved to win.

If beat Bolton and go on to meet Arsenal in the final does that gurantee us Europe (given that Arsenal will qualify through the league for europe) or will it go to the next placed team in the league??

I reckon if Villa lost the final they could still be in europe.

However, if they can beat Chelsea on the night, who's to say they cant beat the Gooners?
Lets face it, if arsenal are in the league cup final, and the latter CL stages, as well as possibly the FA cup, they will have some fixture headache!

Don't think Birmingham got in a few years ago - goes to the league.

Its only the FA Cup losers go in as there used to be a place in the cup winners cup.

If you are a runner up to an already qualified team in the FA cup you go to Europe but that is not the same with the League Cup. Think of all the teams that have got to the final of the league cup and lost to the likes of Liverpool, they never got into Europe and it would be stupid if they did.

Well done Villa, great game to watch ! Makes you wonder why they kept Angel on the bench for so long, he's obviously enjoying his football now !

With a performance like last night's they should give the gooners someting to chew on.

someone suggested that the reason Ranieri plays people on their "wrong" side is that when they then run at the defence , they have options for passing and shooting. duff's pass through to , i think it was crespo , last nite was one such case.

I also assume that Mr. Melchiot had been at the mulled wine for a few hours before kick off, nothing else can explain his bizarre play!!

chelsea really managed to lose the midfield battle last nite , and while nowhere near as bad as the home game against Bolton, where we missed 7 or 8 clear scoring chances, Crespo would be expected to finish his few chances better than he did last night.

Not the end of the world by any means for Chelsea but annoying to go out of the competition with such a whimper.

Angel what a goal and he could have had a hat trick only for great saves by a dirty sullivan who was intent on decapitating Mcann.

Must say i was delighted to see villa go ahead and then go ahead again after chelsea pulling level, shows great great character. Hope they reproduce that in the league!

Excellent match we maintained our sharpness for the full 90 mins and got the winner. if we can perform like that week in-week out we will shoot up the table.
