Does everyone just stick to the "Books of the Year" from the Waterstones etc catalogues or is anybody getting anything more interesting?

I'm getting 5 books this christmas, doubt any are books of the year...

Confederation Handbook - Peter F. Hamilton
Fallen Dragon - Peter F. Hamilton
Sundiver - David Brin
The State of the Art - Iain M. Banks
Skylark 3 - E.E. "Doc" Smith

All sci-fi. Pretty much all the fiction I read.

(Also if anyone has any idea where I can get Skylark 1 &/or 2 I would be much obliged )

That's cool. I'm sick of all these "books of the year" that people buy like sheep every Christmas because they're supposed to be so great - the same books are usually forgotten a few years later.
