I'm thinking of purchasing the IR keyboard and mouse on sale in argos for 49.95. Has anyone experience with IR keyboard/mice.
Do you need to install special software for the keyboard/mouse to work or does it just work. I'm asking this as i'll be using the keyboard/mouse on a linux box and i'm sure i'll recieve window$ only software.

I have a creavite wireless (IR) mouse and keyboard. They amount to USB mouse/keyboard "Human Interface Devices", and linux will support them. The IR is irrelevant. You may have some trouble with typing at the boot phase, as the usb drivers won't have loaded yet, but then the bios usually can support a usb keyboard and mouse itself.

I was disappointed with the creative kboard/mouse. The range seems to be about 3 feet and that ties the whole lot to the desk, which is kind of pointless and the mouse is a poor optical type, shakes from side to side at times. I'd go back to the old wired gear we have if it wasn't beige (and the rest of the computer black & silver).
