Do we have any other fans of Bach's organ music on the boards and does anyone know of anywhere I might be able to hear some good performances.

I've just returned from a weeklong trip to Paris where I had the luck to hear Jean Guillou the famous organist play Bach in St. Eustache - after hearing another organist playing some of his own compositions 30 minutes earlier in Notre-Dame! Extremely impressive.

You might try the notice-board at the front of Christ-Church, they usually have lots of concerts on. Other than that, I'm not too sure, I'm looking for the same thing myself viz. good free organ recitals around Dublin. I hear St. Patricks may have something along those lines, but haven't checked yet.

On a related note, I just saw an ad for a performance of some of Bach's cantatas next Sunday at 3.30 pm. Thing is, I've forgotten where its on...
Will check later, and let you know.

Please do let me know Rene. I have looked around a bit and St. Patricks did have a few recitals over Christmas. I will probably call in to them tomorrw and check to see what is on, etc. Thansk for the heads up about ChristChurch, I will call in there also.
I am a big fan of Ton Koopman, btw, have you heard any of his playing. Tower records were doing a 6 CD set of Ton Koopman playing Bach for about 15.99 a while back, Not too sure if it is still there, but they had a few of them.

Oops, sorry about that - been v. busy lately. That was in a church on Dawson st (I'm not familiar with)
I'm new to Dublin also, and have yet to get the inside track on these matters.
Many events seem to go unpublicised, which makes it even harder to find out.
I'm afraid the only way is to go along to churches/cathedrals etc; they usually have notice boards out front with details.

Koopman rings a bell; but I dont think I ve heard much of his playing.
I havent upgraded from some battered-beyond-repair 30 year old vinyls of Albert Schweitzer!!!

    Okay, heres some info Count666,
St. Patricks have some organ recitals coming up from the 28th of April, and every wednesday henceforth at 6.30 pm. They also have music during the normal services and quite a range of concerts etc, which may or may not involve organ music. This may be worth checking out. Their concert brochure does not give the titles to be played, but the main noticeboard in the church does.

    Hope this helps.
