Does anyone know if NTR were forced to follow normal tendering procedures for the likes of the M50 or Boyne Bridges or other projects?
It just seems strange that one (private) company manages to be successful in getting these contracts. Do none of the foreign companies want the business?

NTR went through the full tender process for the Dundalk Western Bypass, which will involve operating and maintaining the full M1 and taking a share of its tolls. The big companies don't seem interested in small projects - Eurolink, which is SIAC and the Spanish toll roaders Cintra, won the Kilcock-Kinnegad concession, but that's 40Km of motorway.

    Andrew,

I thought the Dundalk concession was for the first six months only, or did NTR win the subsequent (full) contract? Also, do you know if they incorporated 'queue clauses' into the Dundalk contract - i.e. more than X number of cars backed up at Y number of booths and the lanes must be opened until the backlog is clear?

NTR won the full contract a couple of months ago:

I don't know about queue length requirements. They are nonsense anyway; the tailback for the West Link can be miles long, but probably doesn't count as a queue as the traffic is moving at about 5 mph. The majority of the lanes need to be automatically tolled without barriers, and photgraphic evidence should be enough to issue a fine for non-payment of a toll. Oh, don't take that as meaning that I like toll roads or NTR, but they exist so should be done properly.
