Personally I've met Evilphil, Peace and MickL for a boards dive. Although Phil showed all the girls in the shower his willy (your never gonna live that down ) they were 3 really sound lads. I've also been to a boards beer in Galway but I'm afraid I was very drunk and can barely remember anything but they all seemed a sound bunch. I've met a few people through sales who have all being sound. All in all a sound bunch imo. I also know Patch but that was before the interweb... we went to school together.

I've met inm person two people that i met on the web, one of which was a friend of a friend. But when i was meeting them, i went with a few people, just for safety etc.

My advice, if you are ever meeting someone you met on the web, you really should go in a group/meet in a public place. My choice of meeting was stevens green in Dublin city centre, public enough, while still being able to get a bit of privacy.

Better safe than sorry.

Personally I don't think is that odd to go all the way at the first internet date, and I tell you why:

1) Before meeting you have usually chatted for a few weeks and know each other pretty well. This free up the girl from that sense of guilt of having sex with a "complete stranger".

2) You usually meet up only after having exchanged pictures first, if you don't like the picture of the girl and she doesn't like yours there is no point in meeting (my failure mentioned above was with the only one we didn't exchange pictures first)

3) Chatting over the internet free up both of you from many barriers when talking and you feel more comfortable to say many things that you wouldnt say in person to somebody you don't know.

4)If she just wants to have fun for one night she can have it without need to tell it to her friends.... she just come with you and dump afterwards.

I've met a load of people through the net, lads n lassy's from ireland and scotland and made a lot of really good friends not to mention a g/f or 2. There all really long stories tho.

anyway, on the point of the thread: i've met several people including a girlfriend who i knew first online (but only vaguely, ie: net conversations with a friend of a friend). but i'd have been introduced to them all in real life anyway...

to date i've only met one person just because of the internet. i think she found me through msn profile and i chatted to her and texted her a bit...met up with her once but just talked for a while then left and haven't seen her since. so to the best of my knowledge she's not a crazy stalker and i'm not going to be killed....
