Perhaps a silly question, but have you checked that it's not a firewall problem?

Yeah sound like a firewall problem, check which ports are blocked.......

ping the server to check that is up. if it is, telnet to the server (port 110). if you get a prompt back then it's a config setting in (both) the apps. otherwise: like others said it's probably a firewall issue. can you connect to another POP3 server?
