From our good friends at the official Battlefield website.
    1/9/04 - Community Update
    Happy New Year Soldiers!
Here's hoping everyone had a good holiday and is enjoying a great start to the New Year. A quick update on the Map Contest and the 1.6 patch:

    Map Contest
The submissions for the contest were overwhelming. We received over 130 maps from the community and they are as diverse as the Battlefield community, reflecting the many different interests you all have. They ranged from the prosaic to the epic to the just plain silly. It's been a blast reviewing all of the submissions and we've narrowed down our selection to fifteen maps. Now it's down to the difficult task of determining which of these make the final five.

We offer a big THANK YOU to everyone who submitted a map. Although we will be narrowing the field down to five maps, the majority of these maps show an ingenuity and imagination which is becoming the hallmark of the Battlefield community. We at EA and DICE salute you! You should all be proud of yourselves for taking the time and effort to participate in the contest.

    1.6 Patch
The 1.6 patch is still in testing here at EA. We have one more issue to nail down so please be patient...it will definitely be worth the wait. We've tested most of the mods with the 1.6 patch and a few are not working correctly. The mods which are problematic include:
    • Interstate '42
    • Galactic Conquest
    • Eve of Destruction
    • Battlegroup 42
We will be releasing a debug executable with the 1.6 patch. This debug will log assertion errors, allowing modders to determine what's causing problems in their mod as well as optimize it for best performance.

That's it for today. This is EAComMike signing off for the rest of the Battlefield 1942 team.

And also, Punkbuster have launched the Battlefield section on their website, Punkbuster.com. The page will allow people to manually update their punkbuster if they dont have it updating itself automatically. On the site they also have the following, which may [or possibly and to a larger extent may not] be interesting.
During the days immediately following the release of Battlefield 1942 v1.6 with PunkBuster integration, we will be focusing on support issues as the community uses PunkBuster for the first time. After a few days, we will begin to add new cheat detections and features. If you need help with PunkBuster issues, please email support@evenbalance.com and be sure to specify that you are a BF1942 Player or Admin in the email along with as many details as possible. Note that PunkBuster is installed during setup of the game update patch. Players can enable PunkBuster via a checkbox on the Multiplayer screen. We will be providing links to PB for BF1942 manuals near the top of this page.

    [more updates]
Bit of more information on how the punkbuster software will work:
Q: Will the players need a client tool which has to connect to a server?
A: The PunkBuster client will be built into the BF1942 game client. There will be a simple checkbox on the Multiplayer server browser screen that lets players enable PunkBuster so that they can play on PunkBuster enabled servers.

Well thats all for now as I await the release of v1.6.... which should be sooooooon.
