    Just for info - CMOS is a type of electronic chip. What you're talking about is the BIOS(Basic Input/Output System), which used to be called CMOS, presumably because it used to always be a CMOS chip.</useless factoid>

    Your Operating System has nothing to do with it. You know when you boot up, and the very first things it says about the amount of RAM, and the drives in your machine? That's the BIOS. Depending on your machine, it'll say you can press F2/F1/Del/Esc to run setup, or to enter setup, or something like that. That's what you want to do.
    In there you'll find Menus, one of which will have the "Plug & Play aware OS" option (usually the 'advanced settings' menu.

    But Windows 98 is plug & play aware. Turning off that could very easily cause you major headaches. What problems are you having, we could give you a hand here.

    Basic rule when you're in the BIOS - If you're not absolutely, positively, 100% sure what an option, or any part of an option means, don't touch it.
