    What about this site:
    http://www.mp3sugar.com?
I haven't used it myself yet so I don't know if it's available in Ireland.
Mods can delete this post if it isn't.

Any one here use this site?
Would like some feedback on it before I hand over any credit card details.
The tracks I'm looking at are $0.15, this is the cheapest I've seen online.

EDIT: Just did a bit more diggin' and it's another russian site....will give it a miss.

    Beatport (US)

    Audiojelly(GB)

    3Beat Digital (GB)

    Trackitdown (GB)

    Juno (GB)

These are a few that actually pay the artisits a healthy cut - if a track is 15c then the artist is'nt being paid *anything*! ;)

    emusic.com

theres a heavy amount on the site, beware though, some tracks are not available in Ireland.
Worth taking a look for lesser known artists.

some great stuff like Gillian Welch and Erin McKeown on there too

hi guys and gals, can anyone recomend a good site to buy either vinyl or casstte, cant see these formats on the sites that would buy cds off on.

to help narrow it down the vinyls for my self, new to it, would be starting off with rereleases/rare stuff/specal editions, ie the the joshua tree rerelease, or the new rolling stones back catalouge

cassette is for xmas pressie for elerdery relative, traditonal irish or country

there is a new site dont know if any one has heard of it but it offers unlimited free legal music dwn loads the only catch is that there will be some advertisements that it may be nesicary to was before you can down load you song. it has been endorsed by sony music and a few other big brands.
    its called www.qtrax.com
it is up and running in theory but as far as i know they are having some problems but it would be worth keeping and i on.
note: it is only compatible with mp3's at present not ipods.

Hey, iv been using mp3sparks myself for the last few months. Never had any problems until last week when i went on and was blocked from entering the site. Apparently the servers are blocking the ip address of the site but i got on at the weekend and then i tried again today and couldnt!

Are you having any trouble with it or have you tried recently?

That is not a good site its fairly unsafe some spyware/adware and as far as I know would be classed as an illegal file sharing site.

http://www.cdbaby.com - Just Ordered Off them now. Seem good for Independant - non label music. Haven't heard anything about them before. I'll let ye know how I get on. :D

I've used these, had a problem downloading mp3's from them. Wrote them an e-mail letting them know and they got straight back to me and sorted it out.

    So Thumbs up for CDBABY

    Has anyone used www.gomusic.ru ?

It's a Russian site with very cheap downloads - would appreciate some feedback if anyone knows anything about it.

yep, havent used it in ages but I've been a member for about 3-4 years now. It's perfectly safe (as in my card hasn't been cloned yet!), at first there used to be the occasional glitch with downloads not starting immediately, also they never respond to any email queries, but overall happy enough with the service.

Thanks Besprechen - what about file / sound quality? How does it compare with other sites and standard CD quality?

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,995 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

    7digital.ie - legit downloads, most in non-DRMed MP3 format

seem pretty cheap - new beck album is there for €7 (even cheaper if you pay in sterling, £5)

quality is fine but then again I've not got the best headphones in the world, all mine are either VBR or 192kbps. I've not used any other pay sites. You also get a 10% discount for buying complete albums but can buy individual tracks if you wish for usually 10-15 US cents.

  • Registered Users Posts: 641 ✭✭✭lanod2407

Logged into gomusic.ru recently and found that all credit card payment methods had been removed and the only way you can pay now is via "a telephone call".
I emailed to ask how do I pay by credit card and was referred back to the link to the "pay by phone" item as the payment method.

Removal of credit card services - now looks decidedly dodgy to me ...... anyone else of similar or different opinion?

I use CDON and EMP Online for most of my CD buying needs.

I've never had a problem with either of them

Guys and gals, any of you dealt with Road Records in Dublin lately. I ordered a CD a few weeks ago and received a confirmation email, but heard nothing since, and I emailed them, and didn't get any replies? Suppose I should ring them..

People who use emusic, how would you rate it for choice?

I'm looking for an itunes equilvant for my zen.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,995 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

i signed up to emusic last month - I had been a member before and left due to their lack of selection.

I rejoined as they offered me 75 free tracks, but their selection is still poor, having used my free tracks, there's not much else up there that I want.... they really need to get more labels to sign up. Although they market themselves as primarily an "indie" service, many of the bigger "indie" acts are actually on major labels, so aren't on emusic.

so is there anything as good as the itunes music store for buying music*?

    *Russian sites need not apply

I'm looking for an iTunes alternative too, Can someone explain exactly what the restrictions are using DRM music, ie can music downloaded from Itunes be copied from the PC used to a laptop and sync'd with my other Ipod? I have only purchased a few songs from Itunes and Media centre on the same pc can't see them.

Play.com is only available to UK customers so an Irish DRM free suggestion with a large selection of regular recent tunes would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

DRM is copy protection on songs that limits the amount of time you can burn the songs on to a CD and limits what MP3 players you can tranfer the songs to. HMV.co.uk, 7Digital and, from only recently, iTunes have DRM-Free songs that are available in Ireland.
