Top 5 favourite singers

Who would be your top 5 favourite singers of all time? I've been musing on the subject this morning, and I'm just wondering what other people think. Does it matter if the music involved is utter sh*t? I usually find that I cant separate good music and good singers, and likewise with bad. Is there a great singer out there who sings along to terrible music?

    My top 5:
Maynard James Keenan (Tool & A Perfect Circle)
    Jeff Buckley
    Paul Draper (Mansun)
    Shirley Manson (Garbage)
    Brian Molko (Placebo)

The fact that Brian Johnson is on the same list as Jeff Buckley I think is confirmation of my earlier point on music and singing being inseprable. I love AC/DC as much as the next man, but if he was singing a duet with Enya, or somebody... lets face it - *flushing noise*

You're right. Enya sucks... big time!

Well I didn't think you meant people who could sing in the true harmonious, melodic sense. I just thought of my favourite vocalists.

I doubt Brian Johnson would ever do a duet with anyone let alone Enya so I think thats a fairly ridiculous comment in all fairness.

Don't get me wrong - I wasn't slagging off Brian Johnson, and I totally respect the right to list him in your favourite singers. But I posed a few kinda rhetorical questions at the start of this thead, and I think your choice pretty much answered one of them! Nothing more than that...

I was getting worried there until I spotted your post raven136, and fair play lonegunm@n also. I know people have differing opinions and everything, but Elvis is quite simply the greatest singer of the 20th century. No doubt about it.

I think alot of people are just thinking of their favourite bands. I mean Jack White?!?!? Don't make me laugh.

    Anyway mine;

    1) Elvis
    2) Axl Rose/Frank Sinatra
    3) Marti Pellow
    4) Tom Jones
    5) Jim Morrison

My list is in terms of actual singing ability, rather than the ability to moan in a broken voice (Jack White). There's a hell of alot of other amazing voices out there, but this is just my particular list. If we're gonna put Jack White in there, we might as well put the Scatman in too.

Ah.... each to their own I suppose.

elvis ? the best singer of the 20th century. Frankly thats rubbish, he is undoubtably a good singer but the best? no way. Technically singers like Al Green & Marvin Gaye are miles better. That is disregarding the female contribuition of such greats as Aretha Franklin as well.
