yeah it does sound a bit dodge

There is a few funny quotes though
It is nobody's business where you go and what you do online!
Q: Why only a one time fee? How do you stay in business?:

A: The idea behind Ultimate Anonymity was not to make money. The idea was to provide the best resources at a price all could afford. The one time charge allows us to cover bandwidth & operating costs of the site.

I've just taken a quick look through their Products page.

It looks to me like they're offering you an alternative web, mail and various other application proxies instead of using your ISPs.

Your requests will still be logged, its just that you trust these people to not do anything with the logs -- it's arguable that your ISP would do much with them anyway.

Personally, I don't think it's worth the effort. If you want to stay secure install a firewall and keep all your software up to date. If you want to remain anonymous don't give anyone your details :)

I joined there a few years ago and they mostly only offer information on security and post a few proxys every now and then. They do have some re-mailers though.

mods hate it when people post up homework, but if there are areas in which i shud add to the following i would aprreciate any comments.

my titlke is along the lines anonymity and the web, i read a good article with a similiar heading a short while ago, and i liked it.
    i wanted to cover:
cases of bad security and what the eventual cost was,
    hardware protection
software protection including opensource progs as well as the big names nortons etc.
different types of attacks, viruses, bombers, spyware,
the dangers of irc and how to overcomne them
    the dangers of p2p sharing
a little about encryption, mostly pgp, email.

and also a chapter detailing step by step the most cost effective to remain anonymous while browsing the internet etc.

    anything im leaving out?
i want to stay on the english side of technical, as laymen need to be able to read this.

Are you doing any stuff on intrusion detection?

You could explain stuff on port scanning, root kits etc.

nMap, nessus for linux, ethereal etc.

CBA to look the original link - but if the company is based in the US of A then the Feds would be able to use the patriot act to suponea your data - hell even the record companies could probably suponea the data...

Anyway your ISP in this country has to log IP sessions..

If you want to browse anonymously you should through an anonymous open proxy like the ones listed here:
    http://www.atomintersoft.com/products/alive-proxy/proxy-list/

Enter the proxy IP and Port as shown below:
    http://publius.cdt.org/ie/proxy_config.html

Or the easy way. Go through anonymizer.com

sounds a bit iffy. I remember looking at a similar product (proxies) a few years ago, looks like they're still in business
    http://www.anonymizer.com/

Where as you might be able to stay anonymous from you ISP if the traffic is over SSL, you're trusing these guys totally.

Thinking about it, it would make perfect sense for groups like CIA/FBI/NSA etc. to set up these companies up, afterall who is going to be using them ;-)

Actual "Anonymity" is not attainable on the internet as it is constructed at the moment. This is because an TCP/IP stack and IP Protocol require, in general an ip address, source port and destination port in their respective headers.

Anonymous proxy servers make the ip address, source and destination ports look like they come from elswhere i.e. not your own actual allocated ip address.

The provider of this type of anonymity will have logs of your sessions and is free to give them to who he wants or could be compelled to do so by law depending on the country.

Download A4proxy and read the help plus the faq on the website.... http://www.inetprivacy.com

This will give you a good start for your thesis.... Also look for the anonymity section on...

Depending on how broad your thesis is on "Internet Security" you should consider the following....

    Firewalls
    Intrusion Detection Systems
Proxy Servers (Apache's Transparent Proxy, Socks Proxies etc)
    Encryption (PGP etc)
Check the RFC's for SMTP, POP3, DNS, TCP, UDP, IP, IMAP4 etc
    Penetration Testing

Best of luck with your Thesis.....
