Enable "Over-Burn" on Nero

I'm trying to burn an 84min avi movie on to a 800MB/90min CD-R.
I understand that Nero sometimes doesnt recognize non-standard CD-R or CD-RWs but that it's still possible to burn using 800MB CD-Rs, for example.
Apparently you can enable the "over-burn" option - but how safe is it (Nero has a disclaimer "use at own risk" etc).
Has anyone "over-burned"? What are the main risks and what are the chances of Nero messing up your CD-R or even CD writer?

    I've done a few.
Failed only once. The highest one I got was 12 MB over iirc.
Your burner has to support this my old one didnt but my new one does.

It's in Prefrences >> Expert Features.
Have a time over the normnal cd size.
Mine is set at 82 mins.

    Ste-.

    Thanks Ste.

Theoretically i should be able to burn 84 mins of avi on a 90 min cd without having to over burn, right?

you say yours is set at 82 mins - i take it that's for a 700MB cd?

how far should i take it?

Again it could depend on your burner.
Best bet I'd say is trial and error.

yeah you shouldn't have to overburn, once your drive supports 90 min media and all that.

out of interest where did you get the larger media?

    cheers

(If you're in Dublin) i got them in Maplin Electronics (1-4 Jervis Street). Damn expensive though, one cd-r @ 2.95 Euro.
I already messed up a cd, that's why im asking about over-burning etc.

Ste, i'll give it another shot, hopefully it'll work out. Cheers.
