Just bought Call Of Duty this afternoon and fired it up just there. Looks like fun I must admit but I bought it for the multiplayer so I joined a couple of servers got a few frags and disconnected with the idea that I'd have a proper bash at it later on.
Loaded it up just there and got the "your CD key is in use" error, re-entered the key and still the same error... Whats the next step? How do I get my CD key back? And before anyone says it, no I'm not a warez monkey and I didn't steal/generate a key I bought the game today in smiths for €39.99 and I'm really pissed off that I actually have a genuine key and its not valid anymore !
Would an email to Activision sort it? Or has anyone come across this problem before?

Also having the same problem, but seems to fix iself after a couple of tries.

Is the message saying "cd-key not validated", or "cd-key invalid". The later could be a problem, the other could be just bad info sent/received or bad packets.

Seems to happening alot so there could be a fix in a patch, whenever there is one.

Well either theres a problem or some one bought the game and returned it, dloaded it off the web and is using your valid cd key for online play.

    Hi...

unfortunately your key is being removed from the game before you buy it, walk into a shop, open box and write key down, get the code from a friend or download it, simple.

bring it back to the shop and explain that they need further security in this area.
Problem will go away because whoever has your key is not online, only 1 person per key can be online at the same time..

Its stealing but not everyone has €60 to spend on games..

    PS..

    I don't have your key.

unless im very much mistaken but are most games not wrapped in plastic while there on the shelves ??? and most shops like "GAME" have the old secuity camera's watchin ya,

it's more likley that some fecker bought it then returned it and kept the key 4 them selves, i blame "GAME" 4 allowin this to happen i mean they must be just stupid not so see the loop hole

only brand new games are wrapped in plastic. and anyway, those that arent are kept behind the counter with empty boxes used as display. i assume that this is basic practice for all games shops, and i wouldnt buy a game from anyone who doesnt.

i bought my copy from smyths, and they definatly keep all their games/manuals behind the counter wrapped in plastic [you know because whatever way they store them the manuals always have a dogear in the top left corner , but im sure its for the greater good ]

Heh, so I'm not the only one who noticed that then. Every single game I've got there (too many to remember at this stage) has had dog-ears on the manual... I know its petty to moan, but still its REALLY annoying /me mumbles incoherently.

Oh and DavidByrne1969, down with that sort of thing... I buy my games to support the developers if everyone was a warez monkey there would be no profits and therefore no more games. Seems simple enough to me. Oh and I bought it for €39.99 which is only £31~ which imho really isn't that unaffordable if you can't afford it wait for it to go budget.

Let this be a warning the monkey who stole/generated my key... I can do absolutely nothing, but I WILL moan ALOT...

I think Beat frek has hit the nail on the head. A keygen has generated your key for somebody. As I understand it CD keys are generated by the publisher using a specific algorithm. The crackers that release the keygen progs have a look at a few keys, figure out the algorithm and write it into the keygen program to generate working keys at random. Possibly a pure fluke that your key was churned out by one of these keygens and whoever was using it was playing online at the same time you tried.

    Possibly.

I havent had it happen to my now while playing CoD but im guessing they either printed a couple of duplicates or some monkey has generated a CD-Key that matches yours.

Also on the Smyths note, It is possibly the most bloody annoying thing ever. They dont have any of the games packaged in plastic liek they come. They have the manuals packed somewhere with the discs stuck in the manual [not in a package either] and the box. The guy then comes back ot the counter with both items in his hands, opens up the box, takes the CD out of the manual and sticks it in the box, then strights out the manual and puts that in the box.

Im sorry but it just feels like your buying second hand. Though you really cant complain at their prices. Only thing is I worry if the disc is damaged or what not :(
