Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Magnier & McManus take another stake in UTD

John Magnier and JP McManus increased their stake in Man Utd yesterday to 25.49%, if they get 30% they are required to make a bid offer to all other shareholders.

They can now also request a seat on the board which would probably be granted.

This could spell trouble for Alex Ferguson who is in a bitter legal row with John Magnier over the stud rights of the racehorse "Rock of Gibraltar"

    Taken from Irish Independent today.

So Is Magnier going to try and get his stake big enough that he could rock the boat for Ferguson?

Looks like it alright, hopefully it does not come to that though.

Magnier wouldn't be that stupid. If Ferguson left he would lose the money anyway because shares in United would fall if he was sacked or anything along those lines.

There shares value stand at 66.5 million, not a huge gamble between these 2 and I don't think they would drop that much if another top class manager was bought in.

I reckon Alex will be looking over his shoulder a lot.

    Basic business 101.

If the shares in United fall, then M&M will be able to buy more shares at a lesser price and then when they go back up again, as they are bound to do, they will make alot more money. Which is what they said that they are in it for anyway.

    not true at all

shares at utd will be high regardless of who is in chrage of the team

he stands to lose more money if he loses his case regarding the rock of gibraltar

Mangnier and fergie absolutly hate each other, this imo has become personal but i cant see a way out for fergie on this one other to drop his court case against him and we all know that aint going to happen at all!

Mangier is too powerfull for him anyway

then again this could just be a cover for magnier and Co. to make a formal bid for the whole club!

Share prices would only increase if the new manager was successful. It would be a big Gamble to get rid of Fergie and I cants see the Holders of the Other 75% of shares being to happy about losing the best manager the club has ever had.

These two were buying shares even when Fergie and Magnier were best buddies.

They see a talkover coming and see a profit.

If the Tampa Bay guy wants to buy the club he'll have to pay over they odd for their shares. They will make a profit. If it intimadates Fergie while they are at it so be it, I'd say he'll enjoy it.

I doubt they are trying to take over that's why they are buying up only enough.

If he did get the sack over this it would certainly be the most amusing sacking ever :)

Its hardly the world of high finance alright.

If Cubic expressions take over at united will that be the end of this soccer forum or will it just turn into a MU forum?
My reason for asking is as we all know from numerous posts here we are all a very patriotic lot and I presume we will all feel obliged to change club allegiences should Manchester Uniter become an Irish owned club . ;)

Anyone who claims that Magnier and whatshisface buying Manchester United is
a good thing because they would be owned by Irish men is not a Manchester United supporter. Personally I couldn't care if United had no Irish players, or Irish history, I don't support United for their Irish ties. I support United because I love United (pre - 1993 for all you glory hunters). Why must we try and find something Irish in everything. Would you like it if an crowd of English came over to support Galway Utd and had Union Jacks & St. Georges Cross and only shouted for the English players. I wouldn't. And they definetly don't like us going over waving our flags in their faces.

Magnier taking control of United would be a disaster. Fergie is a legend, wether the court case is greedy or not, it has nothing got to do with everyday United fans and the club itself.

All thoose rumours that magnier was behind the 'dirty tricks' campaign, if he was perhaps it was to lower the price of shares? I dunno whether the price dropped when all thoose rumours started or not, I would have thought it would have some effect...

25% is a very large stake, I wouldnt like this cubic expression to be in control of united only becase they could sell it on whenever they wanted. I think one of the reasons Abramovich didnt take over united was because he said there would be too many different parties to deal with. Very difficult club to take over in the same way he did at Chelsea.

If they go above 29% under stock market rules they have to offer to buy out the other shareholders. They are getting close to that now but its difficult to see what is really happening. The really sceptical could even say the whole horse thing is a ruse to lower share prices for a takeover. Who Knows?

What I would like to know is why mc Manus who is an arsenal supporter wants to buy United. I assume its to make a profit on his investment but if they are trying to get rid of ferguson that will have a definite negative effect on their investment in the short term at least.

they are in it for money to make a profit. Please dont ask me for a quote as i dont have one, but their businessmen and thats the ultimate goal. Man Utd are surely going to make much more profit than Arsenal will hence why he chooses to buy shares here.

The club is supposed to cost £650mil, if they have that money I don't understand why they want to make more. I would be over relaxing in the south of France with a few drinks. Oh the joys of money.:p

If Magner and McManus are trying to buy MUFC then there plan is to let fergie go so share prices go down, i.e. the spend less money.

Or else they don't wanna take over MUFC and meerley see it as a business investment considering the prospective take over by Tampa Bay Bucaneeres owner.

What a great situation may they both rip each other to pieces in the public in the commng months.

They are after profit. If they wanted the club it would be well known.

The price is rising and with other people interested in the club they know the more shares they have the stronger the position there are in.

Any individual wanting to buy the club will need their shares. The profit they would likely makes may seem like a small amount considering their worth but this is simply a high profile part of their share dealing amoung what i'm sure is a huge protfolio of stocks.
