    Hello,
I am a huge Buffy and Angel fan. I was wondering any chance of a board for us fans. It would go nicely under Sci-Fi/Fantasay section

Buffy has ended and the new series of angel is just shoit!

Nah - Buffy is finished and Angel hasn't got much longer. Also azzy is right, the new series ain't that good. It GETS better but still nothing outstanding. But yes again to the Stargate forum!

    Hello,
First off yes the buffy show is over doesn't mean there isn't anything to chat about we have se7en seasons worth. Angel maybe shoit in your opinions but maybe not so much in others. Buffy and Angel have a huge fanbase and I am sure there are quite a few people who would like to see a forum. Up to you but hey just making a suggestions

You know, there is a horror board under the sci-fi/fantasy section which was suggested with stuff like Buffy and Angel in mind, and seeing as there's not much activity on board concerning Buffy, the question whether there's need for such a forum arrises.

I love the shows but tbh I can't see much to talk about. The scifi/fantasy and TV boards aren't exactly overflowing with buffy/angel discussions now are they?

Does anybody know a specialist that can cure me of my complete apathy to both these series? Maybe a hypnotist could make me like SMG?

    Cheers,

Whereas the sg-1 topics are threatening to overrun it entirely?

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

And where exactly did I say I supported the SG-1 board?

Also like SG-1 but don't see why there should be a board for that either.

If this was to be created I'm sure that it would have to be heavily moderated.

Buffy has ended and the new series of angel is just shoit!

Just because a show has no more new episodes doesn't mean it's dead. I'd imagine there's still demand for Blake's 7 and Battlestar Gallatica forums around the place. And there's a Star Trek forum here on boards even though previous series have ended and the new series is ****e. I've seen on other boards that Buffy/Angel is a popular topic so go for it.

(I should ask for a farscape forum next)

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,446 ✭✭✭✭amp

You know, I actually went and looked and I couldn't find a single dedicated Blake's 7 forum. Battlestar Galactica on the other hand has a bigger following, most likely due to the fact that it was big in the US unlike B7.

I love Farscape and I loved Sliders and I even loved Quantum Leap (I feel the shame, don't worry ;)) but I don't see the need to create new forums for every popular Sci-fi/fantasy show. The problem with discussion of dead series is that there's a finite amount of things to talk about. The Trek Universe is going to be with us for a long long time as is Star Wars so they deserve forums as the two biggest sci-fi franchises in the world.

That said just because it's popular (or perceived to be popular) doesn't automatically mean it'll succeed on boards.

To paraphrase myself (and for one time only ;)), is there any reason why people don't post about Buffy, BattleStar or Blake 7 on the Sci-Fi/Fantasy forum?

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,991 ✭✭✭✭Stark

A dedicated forum is a more comfortable environment IMO. If there's a dedicated Buffy forum for example, people needn't feel so self-concious for posting about their "guilty pleasure" :)

Will give people a chance to see how popular a show is before they bother posting on something very specific as well. Nothing worse than posting something along the lines of - "so that scene is episode 5 of space above and beyond, what did people think of when ..." and finding out that noone knows anything about it. And threads such as "Does anyone here like x..." tend to be pretty crap.

Perhaps we should introduce the concept of "probation periods" for new forums? Give everyone who requests a forum a month trial. If it succeeds keep it, if it doesn't, delete the forum and move all threads back to Sci-fi/fantasy with the titles of say "[old board name] Thread title".

I'd like to see this forum on boards. I mod on a Buffy/Angel forum elsewhere and even though Buffy is over, there is still quite a bit of activity and it's on a closed extranet, so one on a public forum like boards should easily get enough posts once it takes off. I suppose it's a similar debate to the one we had when the Star Trek forum was suggested. As someone else said, it's sometimes better to have a dedicated space for people to talk about these things, as it people will feel more comfortable about it.

At the end of the day, if worse does come to worse it can always be merged back to Sci-Fi/Fantasy

Sounds great. Personally I'm in favour of anything that'll encourage more "NEW BOARD IDEA: HE-MAN AND THE POWER OF GREYSKULL" type posts in Feedback/Suggestions.

Also the Admins are obviously lazy, work-shy folk and I'm sure this would be the kick up the arse they need.

Oh I'm sorry, I left my sarcasm switch turned on.

How about a probationary period where people post to Sci-fi/Fantasy about Buffy et al? See how it goes, if it doesn't work then no harm no foul.

    Hey,
As k.oriordan said if we had a forum specifically for buffy/angel I believe it would have great support as people would have a chance to talk about it plus for all those buffy/angel non-fans it means we keep these posts out of sci-fi board.

Plus we could attract more people to boards.ie if we advertise the board.

    cheers

Why on earth... In all that is logical and sense-making... WHY, would a topic, that fails to arouse ANY conversation in the correct boards, need its own board???

Your arguement seems to be "There's no intrest, so hence it deserves its own board!"

Honestly, there's a number of boards already created that are perfect for Buffy/Angel, such as Television, Horror and the Sc-fi/Fantasy boards! How about you USE them before demand more boards!?!?!

Is this in the same manner there was "no interest" in a Lesbian/Gay/Bi board, a Star Trek board and so many others?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,446 ✭✭✭✭amp

The GLB board was debated about for a long time. And I think there was no previous forum where it's topics could be discussed.

Star Trek has a far far bigger fanbase than Buffy.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,481 ✭✭✭Vader

there would be more to talk about re: buffy than SG, the difference is that sg is ongoing. A one month trial is stupid cause thats when most postage will occur, and if you think that will get rid of trolls and flamers your ded wrong.

Star Trek rules and I wish ppl who want new sc-fi boards would stop using it as a reference to boost their arguement.

I think it's an excellent ascii scrotum!

Boo-urns to A/B board. You'll need to recruit a LOT of 13 year old girls to fill it.

The thing about other sci fis is that they create their own universe, thus a decent premise is there for discussion; Star Trek / Star Wars / SG are all current, developing and have a large following of...geeks etc, (which I will include myself in cos I luv Trek :D ).

Geeks use pcs... Angel and Buffy dont have enough geek fans because there aren't enough cool electronics. Thus a weaker online base, especially in Ireland.
You'll notice that all of the three other scifis i've mentioned also have pc games for them (sg was a mod, but still the emphasis on PC), and ST ans SW have all things franchisey for the last 30 or so years.

It's got to work in IRELAND, so the blake7 and battlestar galactica arguments are a bit silly, doubt there's a current online Irish fanbase for them.

Anyway... I basically think it will flop, but I'd nearly support the trial just to prove I'm right...... I said NEARLY.

Well...my two cents on a Buffy/ Angel board...

I found this place through a heady combination of Google and the words "Irish Buffy Fans" in the newbie FAQ....Imagine my disappointment.

And I think there's still plenty to talk about. If the concept of a B/A board doesnt float your collective boats, a Joss Whedon one might work. That encompasses Buffy, Angel, Firefly, the spin-off comics, X Men and any Spin off shows or movies (and its been implied there will be some.)

Come on, I need a place to laugh at David Boreanaz' Irish accent some more!
