Any way to check SMS messages without phone ?

    Is there any way for you to check your sms messages without your phone turned on ? Like, is there an internet alternative ?

    well it depends really.

    I dont really understand what you mean. You can remove your sim card and use a gsm modem connected to an rs232 port to read the sms or a variant of this method - ie make your own hardware etc.

    Without removing the sim from the phone then as far as im concerned there are no legal ways of checking your sms. You see it has to so with gsm architecture.

    Your Mobile Station (sim+phone) listens periodically to the BCCh of the Base Station and if this changes it updates the vlr/hlr to its new location allowing the msc to locate the phone in different cells even countries. With the Mobile Station off then the msc cant know where the phone is so it will just store the sms in the vlr/hlr depending on architecture and wait for a vlr to find the phone when its turned on.

    So the sms is actually stored somewhere in ireland depending on service provider but only accessible through vlr. I presume that the service provider's around have a backdoor to this info accessible thro the web for maintenance/ anti child porn measures (just like last week) but thats only for emergencies.

    There's no way that any provider i know of will ever use this to allow what you want because then it'd be no time before it gets hacked (much easier to hack an internet application than an msc but still possible if using correct tools) and sms's get decrypted
